Rockcod fishing at HMB (8/23)

Post by seasicknes » Sat Aug 23, 2003 11:04 pm

Got up this morning and had breakfast with the wife. Noticed that there was no wind. Water calm according to the weather buoys.

So I called two of my buddies and we went off to go rockcod fishing.

Launched the whaler at 12:30 pm out in Half Moon Bay.
Headed up north and work the shore line for rockcod/lings/cabazone.

Noticed the wind picked up in the afternoon, but died down later.
Swell is up. Bumpy ride in head sea. Nice ride on following sea.

Found good fishing at Pedro Point.

Using swimbaits and diamond bars.

Limits for 3 of various kinds of rockcod/cabazone/lingcod

*The tuna guys are killing the tuna out there. My buddy called me on my cell phone and he was fishing out of monterey. He was fishing 18 miles out WEST out of his 17 whaler and had 20 albacore tuna by 9:30 am. He had to run back in because he had no more space to put the fish in.

**Rockcod/Ling Cod/Cabazone has been good for us. Last 4 trips, we have been limiting.

***Salmon has been dead. Water too warm now.

****Halibut is good at this time.

ken (17' whaler / 22' hydrasport)
