Hey all,

Is there a store that is the saltwater equivalent to Tackle Warehouse (sales, selection, service, etc)?

I've recently been looking around for some new salt gear too and I've seen what appears to be some pretty decent size privatlely owned saltwater retailers on-line. Although I haven't purchased anything from any of them (yet). It still appears that the largest selections, particularlly on-line, is searching around between Cabela's and Bass Pro. It takes some playing around with google searches to get where you want to be. If you were to pick some random piece of gear that good saltwater retailers should carry and google that, then the hit results bring up a bunch of retailers that carry that item. Once finding a few stores then searching around their product lines shows if they carry the variety you're interested in along with comparing the prices to see if they're beating Cabela's or Bass Pro or have a better selection.

You could try Fishing Tackle Unlimited. I know they have a website, but I have never used it, do to them being local to me. They are primarily focused on saltwater fishing, especially inshore fishing. You can also try www.meltontackle.com. They are primarily focused on upscale offshore fishing. The other options that I know of have already been mentioned. Good luck with your search.

Hi's Tackle does a lot of saltwater stuff including custom rigging for long range trips - one of their specialties really. The gear might not be on their website, but if you call the store, you can find out pretty quick if they have what you need.

*edit... actually i just checked and they do have some saltwater gear on their site too - especially reels.

I've had good results with Tackle Direct. Good selection on saltwater and freshwater gear and quick shipping.

I've used Charkbait for the past 10 plus years. They used to have really good deals on reels but had to stop and often sell Penn and other reels with free braid or other promotions to make it worth while. I don't know of another source that provides the kinds of discounts TW does with Saltwater gear that isn't local to me. El Capitan in Miami often sells at 15% discounts. I believe you need to call. They may also be online.

The majority of the hard baits at TW work exceedingly well in SW if you simply change the hooks. For example, the LC jointed pointer is turned into a very good SW bait with a simple hook swap. Try it, it might surprise you.

I have used Tackle Direct with good results but in my area we have some good tackle shops that stock most hot items. I have not found anything on the level of Tackle Warehouse.
