Forum thoughts on my rod/reel combo

Post by AU88 » Thu Jun 07, 2007 6:35 am

All -
Its been a while since I've been out on the bay fishing. Recently got hooked on it again and purchased a new rod/reel combo. What do you guys think? Did I overkill it? I'd be fishing 90% saltwater, looking for lings, rockfish, etc.

Here's my combo:

g.loomis PBR 844C with a Daiwa Saltiga SA30.
Thanks,
Paul

Hey AU88, welcome to TT.
That's a very nice combo! Overkill, maybe, but the rod and reel will serve you well, and with the saltiga you can horse that ling away from its hole.
Will be a good combo for halibut in the bay and others as well.

Thanks for the reply JIP -

What kind of line do you recommend? Most sportfishing outfits wont allow braided line, so I was thinking of using Spiderline Super Mono 20lb test. Your thoughts?
Thanks,
Paul
