Inshore/nearshore report Mayport area waters

Florida Fishing Report for:
Intracoastal Waterway, St Johns River and Nearshore Waters from Fernandina to Saint Augustine
Updated: April 09, 2007.
Inshore/nearshore report

I thought the cold weather was done and then we were hit with a record cold snap with temperatures in the 30's. Hopefully, that was old man winter's last gasp. Today the water temperature was 62.5 degrees; down from the balmy 70's of last week.

The spanish mackerel, larger blues, and even a few jacks have arrived. The speckled trout are larger and more plentiful than last month and are hitting surface and diving plugs, as well as live bait. There should still be some BIG drum in the area.

Sheephead continue to bite well. Reds are at the jetties, in the creeks, and ICW. The first schools of pogies have not arrived yet. When they do, the spring dinner bell will have officially rung! The cobia will be escorting them and the migrating manta rays. Some big reds should also be under some of the pogie pods.

The surf fishing has picked up also with some pompano being caught along with whiting, drum, and bluefish.

Tight lines and smiling faces!

Nice red! Where are you seeing your fish right now in shore? I am still picking up my bigger fish over shell and mud. the water is creaping back into the 70 range but is still chilly. reds are over shallow shell here in texas.
