Different surf tackle examples?

Post by BOX-22 » Fri May 09, 2003 1:37 pm

Do any of you guys know of a site that features illustrated examples of surf tackle and rigging? (EX: flounder rigs, striper rigs... etc)

I am going to Nags Head, NC next month and would like to make some rigs before I go. I hate paying the prices for that type of thing at the bait shops. (Good learning experience anyway...)

Thanks!

Well, surf tackle such as rods and reels.
Rods, probably a 9 to 15ft. with either a casting or spinning
reel that will hold line from 12-20lb test. Depends.
I usually through lures like krocodiles, rapala poppers, etc.
If you use bait, I would say
a sliding weight thing, forgot what it's called. It's a tube like thing
and you attach a weight to it via a swivel that's already on it,
and hook at the end of the line. Cast it out and wait.

You might want to wear some waders or something too ifyou're
going to be standing in the pounding waters. It's still cold
back East right?

We will most likely be using bait so I was looking more for bait rigging examples.

The setup I will most likely have is a Daiwa Emblem-X-A and a Lamiglas 10' graphite.

I should probably just swing buy our local outfitter and pick up a surf fishing guide that lists the appropriate info I'll need.

Thanks for the help!

The slider method explained above will work.
You can also use a 3-way swivel.
But with the slider it's much easier to cast.

There are multiple ways to do it. I have tried
the rigs Aerotus and bitesize explained with success
for both surf stripers and halibut(similar for flounders).

Here's some more info.
If you haven't searched the web, try these:

Good luck and let us know how it went when you get back later.
