New Orange Baby

Post by mhood » Tue May 23, 2006 12:27 pm

It's orange at the Hood Home again. A new 2003 Pixy with 85mm ZPI Handle and ZPI 301 CPO Spool dating another recent acquisition; an Evergreen TXFC 66MR Steed. The view is from our deck at Lake Leon...Lord I love it here in Texas! :big grin:

No...None!!! I caught the last one two years ago and word is finally out. That's why the park you see across the lake is empty of an army of clown suits and a traveling circus. :D

...said the fellow who just bought a red reel...(good deal by the way).

I thought you were headed up to the mountains to fly fish for some trout? Sounds wonderful but even though I am the king of professional overruns, I can do even more damage with a fly rig.

Looking good Marc. Nice setup. I like all those trees out there in the water.

Marc,

I am going to the mountains (Friday noon). I have a place about 15 miles from Cloudcroft N.M., back in the woods. 9,000 ft elv. and no sounds except birds and Elk.

I get a chance to fly fish, sleep, read, sleep, hike, sleep, oh and did I mention sleep.

Thanks Boone. The Pixy and Steed are just dating for this picture. When I get the Sol decked out with the I'ze Spool, Handle and SiCs, I'll form a lasting union with the Steed and Sol. I loaded 8# Yozuri Soft on the Sol and have rediscovered weightless Senkos...the Steed is a very nice rod for pitchin Senkos.

After I lick my financial wounds a bit, I'm thinking MB F1.5 Espada for the Pixy. Much depends on my impressions of the Jabberwock FTi (should be here soon) and whether the use of Ti in the Evoluzion series is the "steely" miracle I am hoping for. ;)

Marc, did you do any upgrades with the SMAK yet? What did you end up putting it on?

I put mine on a 6'8" MH AiRRUS UXL and it is a fantastic worming combination!

I've grown very fond of the mutant handle on the SMAK and just love the one hand operation for pitchin. I've got it on a Falcon Cara 7'6" telescopic flippin stick but hope to afford a MB 7-11 sometime soon. I strung it up with 30# Power Pro and it deals with weightless 5" Senkos just fine. I like it better for pitchin than casting but that may be more influenced by the rod I have it on than the performance of the reel.

Actually, I haven't thought much about SMAK upgrades. What are you thinking (other than a new handle)? SiC bearings? Is there a spool upgrade out there? Overall, I'm very happy with the SMAK. :D

Besides the handle, I have some new knobs coming in. They should be here today. Nothing other than that.
