My new alphas!

Post by skunked » Tue May 09, 2006 1:34 am

I just ordered this from ebay seller ginrinpeche a week ago and received it in only 2 days! Great price and quick shipping. What more can anyone ask for? I just wanted to photograph it now before I spool it up, take it fishing, and inevitably scuff it or nick it on my first trip! Can't wait to try it. This reel feels so solid and the spool spins forever. Definitely a step up from my scorpion 1000. I am officially addicted to this stuff now! I want to get a Sol now because I like the orange and am curious to compare it with the Alphas.
BTW, I'm Blaine from Hawaii and I'm new here. I hope to learn a lot about tackle and fishing from all of you experts. Aloha.
PS: I am contemplating selling 2 of my scorpions. see here

I recently purchased that same reel, from ginrinpeche as well. I have purchased a few reels from him. Dont receive in 2 days, but I am in NewJersey.
I have the Sol as well, and if you like the Alphas, you will like the Sol. I have the Alpha F too. This line of Daiwas are super smooth casting!

Good Luck!!

Since you buy on ebay, reelseller usually has some Daiwa neoprene reelcovers, that would keep that beauty from getting all nicked up.

Whats the inshore and estuary fishing like in Hawaii. I`ve only ever read about the hot pelagic action that happens. (marlin, BIG XOS Giant Trevally etc.)

Fishing on my island, Oahu, is not as good as it once was. Not enough enforcement of bag limits and minimum size requirements. People here keep everything they catch. Very sad. I am no expert, but I catch a lot of barracuda while fishing for my target fish, the Jack Trevally. We call them "papio"
Other fish that people go for from shore are:
Threadfin (moi)
Goatfish (moana or weke)
bonefish (oio) a friend of mine caught a 7 pounder at Waikiki Beach!!
mullet

Thanks for the welcome. Am I the only person from Hawaii here? You guys may think I am lucky to live here, and yes I am, but I really envy people who live in the mainland who can take their pick of which lake or pond they want to catch a bass in on any given day. You see, I am one of the few fishermen here in Hawaii who greatly prefers freshwater fishing to saltwater. Unfortunately for me, there is only one lake open to the public on my island (oahu). Largemouth bass are scarce in the lake nowadays. Peacock bass are the dominant species. It also holds Channel cats, carp, oscars, snakeheads, smallmouth bass, tilapia and red devil cichlids. Also, we only have the northern strain of largemouth because the stupid legislature refuses to bring in the florida strain for fear of them eating all the wild birds!!! I caught a personal best bass of 5 lbs. here back when I was 15 (34 now). My interest in fishing has been off and on since my teens but I always enjoyed the times when I did hit the water.
I grew up watching Orlando Wilson, Roland Martin, and Bill Dance on WTBS Atlanta. I have no idea why they were showing those shows in Hawaii but I was "hooked". I even subscribed to BASSMASTER magazine for a few years! I had dreams of someday catching a 10 lb. bass. Still a dream.
With the Alphas reel, I intend to use it at the lake with 8 lb. line and attempt to catch largemouth or peacock bass. I don't know if my renewed interest is with actual fishing or just collecting nice equipment. Also, I will take it with me on my annual trip to Houston to try and get a bass there. Fished at Lake Conroe last july with no success, except for catfish. I did manage to catch a baby striper, pumpkinseed, and a crappie. I was stoked. I had only seen these fish in magazines and on tv. The first place I wanted to visit when I landed in Texas was Bass Pro Shops in Katy, TX. I used to order a lot of stuff from them, but had never been to one. When I got there and saw the huge bass in their aquarium, I was amazed. My fiance was like, "you're weird!" I said, "you just don't understand!".
A few months ago, we went to Las Vegas. I didn't care about anything else but visiting the BPS there! They had an even bigger hog in their aquarium! I think I stood there and looked at them for 20 minutes while my fiance called me "weird" and went gambling in the adjacent casino.
Well, that's just a little (a lot) about me. Once again, thanks for the welcome. I also just bought a curado 100D and 200DHSV. I'm nuts!
