Did some creek fishing last night

Post by nikbrewer » Fri Sep 01, 2017 7:27 am

Well, I finally got to get out and fish the creek by my house again. Every time it raning hard it gets 5-10 high and runs pure red. Takes it about 2-3 weeks to settle back down into being back to normal. Took the little kayak out and caught a few. It was kinda slow, normally i can get 10-15 in a trip, but just 5 this time. Creek runs pretty clear ( 4-5 foot visability) and has a pretty hard bottom. Pretty rate for central OK. Fished a 1/8" spinner bait and a 1/8 oz swim bait. Caught the catfish on a drop shot in a deep hole.

Nice multi-species trip! I really enjoy fishing small waters with light line and green sunfish are a favorite of mine, thanks for posting :D

What rod, reel and spool were you using in that trip?

combo 1 is a diawa SV105 on a Kuying Teton L action rod
combo 2 is diawa Tatula CT with Ray studios long cast spool on a Field and Stream 5'6" inferno M rod

Both with .01 line ( I use dia since lbs varies so much, i think this was 6-8 lbs mono)

How do you like the CT DIY Long Cast? Does it really cast regular baits further or is it more of a deeper finesse spool?

I really only throw small stuff in the creek. I was using a 1/8 oz spinner. It does thow it really good. It could out distance the SV105. THe spool does make a whirring sound though
