Took my wife fishing the other day. She doesn't fish with me much, but when she does I give her this combo. It got me thinking, what combo do my fellow TT's give their spouses to fish with?

6'8" Medium Heavy G. Loomis GL2 Spinning Rod (Extra-Fast)
Daiwa Lexa 2500 Spinning Reel

My wife doesn't go out with me too often either, but when she does I give her a Pfleuger President on a Fenwick HMG rod. Decent combo. She wanted to try a baitcaster the last time, I set the brakes pretty aggressive and she loved it. Looks like I'll be buying her one of those sometime. :)

Any reel with an SV spool, a dream with newbies.

I do however, tend not to give someone a reel with expensive fluorocarbon. One good blowup and it's done for

my wifes setups are as follow..

Spinning setup - 7 M/F Shimano Crucial paired with Shimano Symetre

Casting setup - 7 2 MH/F Shimano Zodias paired with Shimano Scorpion DC7

Casting setup - 7 3 H/F Cabela's ZX rod paired with Shimano Metanium MG DC7

i dont worry about her backlashing any of the Shimano DC setups while i fish...

My wife's new combo: Revo Premier Spinning 30, 7'6" MH Ike spinning rod, 10b Sufix 832. I do not know what got her on longer spinning rods, before this it was a cheaper Abu Vendetta in the 7'4" M length, the new Ike rod is actually lighter on the tip than the old Vendetta. Good rod though, chunks tubes and Keitechs a LOOOOOOONNNNNGGG ways... I deep winter I use it to chunk flukes and plastics with 1/16 tungsten. Good combo, just strange to use because ALL of my spinning rods are ML or less.

My wife loves to go fishing so I got a few setups just for her.
Custom Phenix UMBX 7'3" MH w/ red Winn Grips and a Scorpion 201 for bottom contact baits.
Powell Endurance 723 Composite with a Curado 201E for cranks.
Abu Ike 7' M with a Daiwa Emeraldas MX 2508H for lighter stuff. (Beautiful combo)
The Abu Ike 7'M is a little heavier action than I was expecting, so I think I'm going to get her the ML version also.

I have 3 set up for the wife. She still doesn't understand why she need 3 rods and why I "have" to bring so many rods

1. Daiwa Steez Flex Lite w/2500 Shimano Sustain - moving bait

2. Daiwa Zillion 7'3" MH w/2500 Dawia Procyon - T-Rig and small Jigs

3. St.Croix Advid 7' MH w/2500 Shimano Stradic Ci4 - Senko rod

My wife gets the Dobyns Champion Extreme 743C with a Chronarch 100D7 or the first generation Shimano Cumara 6'8" Medium XF with a Curado 50E. She can't cast a spinning reel that well, but she can cast a baitcaster just fine...interesting???

I'm thinking about having a custom spinning rod built for my wife. At the mom she uses an Abu Garcia Veritas spinning rod. She grew up using Abu reels with her dad, but it didn't take long for me to get her on the Daiwa train. She likes the rod because it's white, so I'm thinking perhaps one of the MHX white blanks, or a colored Rod Geeks blank.
