Midseason Tackle Trap Project

Post by papabassin » Tue Aug 01, 2017 6:54 pm

BNIB 09 Shimano Aldebaran MG7
Metanium MGL XG Handle
Yumeya Cork Knobs - Type 3
Avail Microcast ALD0936RR Spool (Black)
ZPI Spool Bearings
Carbontex Drag
Clean/Supertune by Bryan (PikeRoadBassn)

Being shipped tomorrow, but Bryan and Gary were kind enough to send me some photos to hold me over for the next couple of days! The Tackle Trap never seizes to amaze me. They treat you like family over there. Gary facilitated it all -- answering my questions, giving me my options, making the Hedgehog Sudio order, and helping me with decisions. Can't wait to get another one of Bryan's works of art out on the water!

Dang man, that is absolutely beautiful! Spotless! It will sing with those bearings too. Congrats!
I have a custom on the way from Tackle Trap soon too... Will be posting plenty of pics of it when it comes.

Very nice! I too am a fan of the gang at the TackleTrap. They have always treated me right and answered questions and provided with options and their experiences with products. I am sure that reel will become a favorite in your rotation! 8-)

Good to hear! I'm really excited about that spool. What rod and line are you running with yours?

Good Lord if it's the spool I have :-k which it looks like it is it's a pretty damn versatile spool. At now I have one that is 10 lb fluorocarbon on my Hein for one of my drop shot setups. Think I've gone as low as 4lb mono on a similar spool that is royal purple on my Chronarch 51e. Even at the 4 through 10lb test I still get a great amount of line. I'm not sure if I like those Ultra shallow ones they have, as for me the ALD0936RR Spools have been great. I went with air bearings with mine. Zipps!!

Finally spooled her up with 8# Seaguar InvizX and went out to the local pond for about an hour or so Sunday Morning. Wasn't sure where to start lure weight wise, so I rigged up a weightless wacky rigged 5" Senko with a 1/0 Gamakatsu Finesse Wide Gap Hook. The combo was a pure joy to fish. Had 2 of centrifugal breaks on. Not much wind, but no backlashes. That Avail 936RR spool is indeed awesome...felt a ton of control but still had really good distance. Skipping that wacky rig was no trouble either. Don't even get me started on the rod. Work of art with an awesome tip on it and it's no slouch in the sensitivity department either. Not as sensitive as my Super Eiger, but still plenty sensitive in my hands. Only caught 2 small ones, but nice to get out nevertheless...life's been crazy busy lately. Can't wait to get it on the deck of the boat soon and set the hook into something a little bigger :)
