I saw the pics. This and those are why I asked. Nice muskies BTW.
I head up to Hayward and and bunch of other N. Wisco spots a few times a year . Can't beat it.

Re: Warning: Musky Combos
Still something I wanna try.. just don't know if I have the patience Nice gear, tight lines!
Re: Warning: Musky Combos
Thanks They can make you feel like a terrible fisherman, but they payoff is pretty great!
Re: Warning: Musky Combos
Nice setup. Probably a dumb question considering you use heavy braided line but do the muskies ever rip you line ?
Re: Warning: Musky Combos
You can get away with it, but without a proper leader they will likely slice that #100 pp like butter if they get their tooth on it.Ifish585 wrote:Nice setup. Probably a dumb question considering you use heavy braided line but do the muskies ever rip you line ?
Our friend probably using a #100-130 fluoro leader

Fish of 10,000 casts...but worth every aching wrist.

Re: Warning: Musky Combos
Yup nailed it. I use #130 or #150 fluoro. You would have to get lucky to land a musky without a leader, even with heavy braid.fati wrote:You can get away with it, but without a proper leader they will likely slice that #100 pp like butter if they get their tooth on it.Ifish585 wrote:Nice setup. Here are my present ski casting rigs . I have a few trolling and sucker rigs , but I don't like either style too aweful much, so the ugly rigs get no love nor pics.
Re: Warning: Musky Combos
Sweet reels! My first musky was also on bass gear but only 30". I did lose 3 musky during a weekend bass trip. Probably what gave me the bug. It's unreal how many gaints are caught on light tackle. The fishing gods work in mysterious ways!Mike and Pike wrote:IMG_0405.JPGI never cast a muskie rig without 80-130# leader. Funny thing is 60% of my landed skies were when I had bass, eyes or some other species in mind (and the much smaller rig to match) . I was very lucky to catch my first 42" on 15 # PP , no leader while eye fishing.
