Been doing some troutin'!
Never been a trout fisherman, always a bass and walleye guy...but a family friend who loves chasing trout recently had a stroke and can't get out this year, so I figured Id get him some fillets if I could....very different from bassin', but had a blast and they fit very well....actually got out for a couple days, and first day nailed a bunch of fryers in the 13-14 range, and one about 17...then the next day, caught a football! The big one went almost 23", and weighed a touch over 5 pounds...all caught on a spinner (Blue Fox/Rapala type), using 6'6" ML Jackall Nero, with Revo MGX30 spooled with 6lb clear Trilene Sensation...can't wait to get back out there again!
Thanks y'all for looking!

Was a blast man, all Wv. stream fishing...the big one gave the reel a little workout, nice smooth drag....

Nice job dude. Trout can be fun on very light tackle.
And it makes very nice table fare, especially when this fresh!

Hi Call Me Rifle,
I will take that kind of fishing any day over fishing in big lakes. Congratulations on a nice catch.
May I suggest that you don't kill the big trout. It takes a long time for a stream Trout to grow to five pounds. Catch and release is very important to sustain big Trout populations in streams. I am not trying to tell you what to do, that is up to you. I am just pointing out that stream big Trout can't take fishing pressure like Walleye and Bass. You are very lucky to live in an area that has Trout fishing of this caliber. Some people Trout fish all their lives and never catch a five pound Trout in a stream.
Just a suggestion that I hope you consider.
Frank

Re: Been doing some troutin'!
No offense taken at your suggestion Frank....however, these are all recently stocked fish. Wv. Stocks them up to about 10 pounders, in surprising numbers....and typically, in waters where they likely wouldn't be able to reproduce, and even more likely wont have enough cold water and oxygen to survive past summer....I would otherwise agree with you, but it is better to harvest these fish instead of seeing them float come August....
