Howdy all
Hey,
I am new to fishing having moved from London UK to Lake Country WI in order to be closer to my wive's family. Both her parents live on lakes and Large MouthBass is the dominant species.
I have been fishing for about six weeks now and I have benefited enormously from all your advice. Originally I bought four St Croix Avid rods but I quickly got the taste for the more expensive offerings and my catch is as follows;
Rods - Spinning
St Croix Avid - AVS60ULF, Length 6ft, Line 2lb to 4lb and lure 1/32 to 3/16oz
G Loomis NRX - 822s DSR, MagMXF, Length 6ft 10”, Line 6lb to 12lb and lure 3/16 to 1/2oz
G Loomis NRC - 822s SYR, MagMXF, length 6ft 10”, Line 6lb to 12lb and lure 1/8 to 5/16oz
Megabass F3.5-610-X7S Simoom, MF, length 6ft 10”, Line 3lb to 8lb and lure 1/16 to 1/2oz
Reels - Spinning
Shimano Stradic CI4+ 2500 with Mono 4lb
Daiwa Certate 2510PE-H with Sniper 7lb
Shimano Stella 3000XGFI with Sniper 7lb
Shimano Stella 3000XGFI with Sniper 10lb
Rods - Casting
Evergreen International Kaleido Inspirare TKIC-610MR BK, MF, length 6ft 10”, line 8lb to 18lb and lure 1/4 to 3/4oz
Reels - Casting
Shimano Aldebaran 51L. Hedgehog AIR bearings with 11lb Sunline Shooter Defier Armilio
I'm quite frivolous so please let me know if you think there is a particular rod or reel that I would benefit from having in my collection.
Regards
Matthew

Re: Howdy all
Welcome! Nice introductory post with your gear choices. You should fit in perfectly here. You mentioned you want to know what you may need to add which would be hard to say. Perhaps a few more casting rods and reels if you enjoy or are comfortable with baitcasters. The rod and reel could be better suggested if we knew what you like to throw... Jigs, jerkbaits, crankbaits, spinnerbaits, weightless plastics, etc.

Re: Howdy all
I'm think I have Drop Shot and light plastics covered between the NRX SYR and Megabass Simoom.
The Evergreen Super Cougar seems good for cranks or Jerkbaits.
I think I'm lacking a true top water and a jig Rod.

Re: Howdy all
Yeah we need a bit more info. So far i gather that you like how the NRX feels and like JDM quality/styling. I am also going to assume that you just want 3-4 high quality baitcasting combos, unlike people here with 10-15 (guilty)
These three would do you good:
Kaleido Super Stallion Inspire or OG for pretty much everything else that Super Cougar doesn't handle.
NRX 854C JWR and if you prefer something longer, then the 894C JWR should do for jigs.
Kaleido Egoist or NRX 853C JWR for soft plastic, both are almost identical so go with what feels better/looks better.
These are optional and what i like:
Black Gunner, the best jig JDM rod i have handled, but it has the ACS which might turn you off.
Wild Stallion Valient, again with the ACS, but it is the 7'7" XXH goodness you won't find anywhere, even from MB.
Husky Winder, The best glass rod i have laid my hands on and this is coming from a previous Shiryu GT3, and GTA owner. The glass feel is not for everyone though. I should mention the Husky is a hybrid and it transmits to the carbon backbone very fast.
C40 Mephisto and White Python are alternatives if you can't locate those above or can't stand ACS.
All from my personal experience and opinion of course

Thanks fella. Your help has been amazing. I've had an exiting day today with getting the in laws boat in the water. I'm looking forward to getting to those deeper fish.
So which jig Rod; Super Stallion, NRX 854C JWR, Black Gunner or Mephisto ?
I will be looking to place the order this week.

Only 2 of those are true jig rods and by that i mean stiff tips.Jdmbassman wrote:Thanks fella. Your help has been amazing. I've had an exiting day today with getting the in laws boat in the water. I'm looking forward to getting to those deeper fish.

Re: Howdy all
I gather the Super Stallion and Mephisto are good alrounders
So it's between the 854c JWR or the black Gunner. Another one to throw into the mix for all around jig fishing, the CRR 873.

Re: Howdy all
I use an NRX 853c for plastics and jigs up to 1/2. The 854 would be a great choice as well. The extra fast tips helps detecting the light bites. Great rod, even if it doesn't have the aesthetics of the JDM choices.
Nice setups you have there...

I wouldnt touch the CRR 873 just because of the recoil guidesJdmbassman wrote:I gather the Super Stallion and Mephisto are good alrounders

Re: Howdy all
Maybe look at an NRX 893. It is great for jigs & soft plastics from 1/4 oz to 3/4 oz and considered by many to be the NRX rod with the most "it" factor for bottom techniques. I know I love mine and it is very versatile for bottom techniques.
