Purple happens to be my favorite color, but 4k is insane. I don't care how much scratch you've got, that's simply too much. For the uninitiated, anodizing is relatively inexpensive.
Hard to say an actual cost, as it depends on total number of parts/choice of color/depth of color/masking difficulty/polishing, etc. Looking at this color, I figure it was charged probably 3 times to get to that depth. A finish job of this nature, nowadays, might run upward of $400. In my younger years I used trick out my dirt bikes with aluminum anodized components, nickel coating the frame, carbon fiber when I could get it. Then promptly jump the thing into the nastiest mud I could find. Yup. THAT is how it's done...
My respect for this angler runs as deep as his color of choice. Mad props. Too bad it will probably never see the water.

Ive spent that much on a dog....highly functional yet only lived 9 years.
Diamonds are "forever", some become family heirlooms - so its all about perspective.
If you got the duckets, and the desire- good for you.
People in Japan also spend 6 figures on koi - so this is small change in some circles....

The higher end stuff isn't as expensive at first glance, when you consider that a great can easily replace 2 or 3 lower cost ones (not too mention being a pleasure to fish w/, reducing fatigue over a good day's fishing, etc.).
Then again, $4,000 seems a bit much to me for a reel. I'd rather have two Arms Challenge Rods and great reels for that price.

I recently went fishing with a buddy of mine for the first time in his new Ranger. 521c with a Verado. Beautiful boat !!! $74,000 and he hadn't mounted his power poles on it yet so there's another what $4k probably. He commenced to getting out his H2o reels he found on sale at Academy mounted on his. Bass Pro rods! I just shook my head what can you say ? The guy is a really good angler. My tackle should have gone with his boat Hahahaha !!!
