Put a pixy/px68 on that rod for some sweet finesse fun.

That's one of the original Loomis Wiebe reel seats, from before they used Fuji seats. They make a round reel much more comfortable to use IMO. The new Edge reel seats are a carbon copy of that seat.

Congratulations on the rod purchase. I'M guessing it would be a rare and much sought after find. If you ever decide to get rid of it I'm sure a lot of 50 size reel owners will help you out. I have a modded Calcutta 50 that is a perfect color match to that gold lettering.

i got a revo ltz with about 120 yards of 15lb braid. its a finesse reel and kicks ass!!

but you guys read my mind. i had a calcutta 51 with a avail shallow spool that was stolen. if i still had it, it would be mounted already!!!

but i love this rod already. perfect for herkbaits and poppers. not so much walk the dog baits, didnt suit my style of working the bait

tried some shaky head fishing and had no problem gettin a good hookset with a non exposed hook. has good power for a lightrod also. just as much as my medium irod air.

I've had a Pixzilla on mine since the day I got it. Love the stick!

Excellent purchase! I own two CR721s with the Fuji seats. I use them for many different techniques. For my style of fishing, the 721 excels with a walking bait up to 1/2 oz.

you were right. i was using a 5/8oz gunfish and it wasnt proper. stepped down the weight and it was just perfect.

btw, ran into something unexpected

Slicksouthpaw, I'm glad the CR721 is working out for you. It is an amazing rod!

Looks like you tested the rod out nicely on the ray. The 721 will surprise you with it's power. Great job! =D>

yes it was a drag peeler. after landing and releasing with my barehands (didnt fit in the net, used it to hold its stinger from getting me) i was done for the day. so damn worn out.

im never gonna leave home without it

Now you guys have me thinking. I have a Wiebe CR 721 IMX sitting without a reel, but I can fix that! Might move my CQ 50 over to it…should make a stellar smallie outfit, and I need a light surface bait outfit. :D

Slicksouthpaw, I can't imagine what a fight that thing must have put up!

Good job!

i personally would rather have a calcutta 51 on it also but dont wanna break the bank.

i'll settle for gold avail parts :)

an im trying to start the bfs trend around these parts. everyone uses mh or heavy rods out here. im on a mission to prove that finesse style reigns supreme. i had many non believers in the beginnin of the year, now they respect the bfs fishing :)
