First good one of the year and new additions

Post by capesmallie » Sun Jun 01, 2014 8:55 am

Was in a serious big fish slump this year but turned it all around today. Fished a deep trout stocked pond here in Massachusetts had a solid football jig bite all day biggest fish went 7lbs12oz. All fish we caught on a 1/2 oz skinnybear football jig fished on my new Megabass Nautilus with a '13 Shimano Metanium spooled with 14lbs shooter.

I have been talking with Gary at the tackle trap all winter about megabass rods and finally pulled the trigger on two the Nautilus and a Phase III Bearing down. I am beyond happy with the nautilus it handles 1/2 oz football jigs like a dream. I have not had much of a chance to fish the bearing down but initial thoughts are that it is going to be a fantastic close quaters jig rod. Right now it is paired with a Ci4 Chronarch. Special thanks to Gary and the tackle trap for all the help with the rods.

Since you have both the Metanium and Chronarch CI4, is there a difference in the performance, etc?

You know what to be honest not really. They are both smoother than all my cores and out cast them. Although I have not done a serious comparison between the two I have been equally impressed with both reels

Thanks for the kind words as well. I'm glad the gear is working out well for you, those are some fine pieces of tackle you have there :D

You catch some of the fattest northern LM and smallies from deep water...takes skill, knowledge and tenacity.

Awesome work man!
