Here Kitty Kitty...

Post by bronzefly » Tue Apr 08, 2014 6:30 am

I was out this weekend playing around with the Megabass FX-710X7 "The Destruction" I had a Zillion J-Dream 7.9L spooled up with 16lb Sunline Super FC Sniper and had been fishing a variety of jigs. Up in the river, I found 60 degree muddy water, pretty strong current, and a bluff wall that lead into a nice flat. I worked my way around the transition and into the meat of the bluff pitching a 3/4 oz jig with a large trailer, caught a couple of decent small mouth, then had a bite that felt like a punch in the arm

I didn't weigh it, but it was a pretty good sized Flathead Catfish, and it was not pleased when The Destruction hammered the hook home in 25' of water. The big, flat, wide body in the strong current made for a fun fight, and also a nice work out for the rod. Every once in a while it's fun to get a surprise like this one!

Most folks wouldn't because they're so ugly, but they are the best tasting catfish in the lake...even the big ones. ;)

x2

Absolutely delicious. I like them fried with some type of spicy, zesty breading. I'm hungry now. =P~

Very nice fish, bronzefly.

Nice. I really enjoy fishing for catfish. I upgraded to a Z200 this year. It's the high speed version and I was a little worried about torque for reeling in a big cat. I guess if you can handle that with a 7.9 gear ratio there's nothing to worry about.

=)))) Awesome...

Thanks guys! The rod is fantastic. Very light, impressively sensitive, plenty of power, and extremely versatile. I'd consider it a "big brother" of the Phase III Nautilus in that I've been able to fish everything from jigs to spinner baits to cranks to swim baits on it. I love jig fishing, shallow to deep, and this rod is a go to for me. Another outstanding X7 =D>
