It is in mint condition, and not even a spec of grass/dirt on it anywhere. Spool was included for a great price, but won’t be able to use it. Added the 102mm handle off a Stile and the high speed brass gears, and it’s a smooth little beast now. Also including a pic of the first fish caught on it, great way to start it off.

What are these brass gears you are referring to? :-k

Definitely reminds me why I miss my Core 50’s! The brass gears are the 7.7:1 set from the Brenious. Japan Tackle sells it as a kit with drag washer for main gear.

Thanks JB! Are the 7:7.1 the only “brass” set for this platform?

The set from the Curado 50e (6.4:1=26ipt) fits as well. Great cranking ratio, little slow for most other things. KTF also made a 7.9:1 ratio brass set, but have no idea if they are still available anywhere.

Thanks JB. I may grab another 50e gear set sometime. I did pick up some 7:1 sets for some of them. Not sure what material they are made or but so far so good after a few years of use!

7.0 ratios are aluminum, as well as the 5s (both from 09Aldebaran MG), the 6.4 is brass, as well as the 7.7s.

^^^ Correct. And I should say I’ve never had an issue in freshwater with any of the aluminum gear sets, I only swap out for saltwater use and more speed. Definitely prefer brass though.

Didn't plan to obtain a Aldebaran MGL this summer but I'm glad I got one now! Love the tweaked paint job and MGL treatment. Spooled up some 8lb Mono for play sake and was casting more than half the spool off 100' casts across the street no problem  I've used Aldebaran for 10lb Fluoro and the thinner Shooter Armilo 15lb Mono and it always took a bit of force to get the distance. Seems the wrist is all I need to flick a 5/16-1/2oz lure a mile...on the street here anyway. On the water testing will be the later this month sometime jerk baiting smallmouth.

Got to love Shimano's lineup. Winter is going to be expensive  8-)

Modified Stile SS. This thing bombs some 1/4oz baits, shallower spool than Curado 50e and finesse braking system works great. Pulled some nice redfish off those docks on this evening.

Thanks, that was the backside of TS Gordon and it was lighting up the sky that evening. Some great fishing around those storms!
