Personal best Smallmouth

Post by daiwafan » Mon Feb 06, 2012 11:47 am

Well Saturday, after 30 some odd years of trying, I finally caught a smallmouth over 6 pounds. I was fishing in Hinton,WV as I normally do, without a scale when I caught this big old girl. So I loaded her up in the truck and drove about a 1/4 mile to the nearest convenience store with a certified scale and weighed her in and then took her back and released her to be caught again. I always said that when I finally caught one over 6 I would have her mounted to be placed beside the 5-15 I caught in 1987, but when it came down to it I couldn't keep her.

Official weight was 6 pounds 3 ounces and she was caught on my PX-R with a 7'1" Steez compile X. She hit a 3/16 oz homemade football jig with a KVD chunk trailer. She was one of only two hits I got in the two hours I fished. I went back Sunday and caught a 2-4 and a 3-14 out of the same hole.

Awesome fish and great release. Nothing wrong with replicas, you have your phone camera just bring a soft measure tape and your good to go. I only have one replica my PB 6lb7oz smallie and it came out fantastic and would do it again. Again Congrats.

IMHO no personal best is worth killing a wonderful fish like that. Replicas are awesome. A good pic and a measuring tape is all you need to prove to the only people that matter( your fishin buddies) that your the man today!

What a great fish!

Caught on world class rod and reel combo with a home made jig no less.

I'm green with envy.

Way to endure to reach your endeavor! Congrats and much praise for your release of this trophy fish...her progeny will thank you, as will the next generation of fishers! 8-)
