Let's go back 35 years to the best fishing trip this old boy ever went on. This is Lake Texoma in Texas.

dig ya catch those "open water" trolling with big stick baits?

I love big water trolling for stripers. It's like trolling for walleye on Erie, but these walleye get big, and you know, pull back, lol.

Not me or anyone I know personally, but noteworthy just the same. 11 year old girl here in New Jersey pulls a 4 lb 19.5" black crappie through the ice the other day. That's a slab no matter what state you're in =D>

Doubt it. State record for a black crappie here is 4 lb 8 oz. According to her dad's Facebook post, hers was 4 lbs even.

Maybe not a record, but that would be a decent size for a bass let alone a crappie.
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious

I've had more success bank fishing the beds this year. Two things I'm trying. My shorter and visually more acute daughter spots them and tells me where to cast. The no drag set up with the DR 100 just takes one thing out of the equation for me. So, it's just set hook and to the races. What really simplifies is not messing around with a boat, trolling motor...

Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Fishing in the marsh in the spring is a lot of fun, and nothing better to throw through all the milfoil than a chatterbait. There's a really nice variety of bass, redfish, and trout in there...among other things. This redfish crushed that chatterbait off a solid rip out of the grass, and felt like hooking into a speeding truck when I set that hook hard  843 NRX/'13 Metanium HG worked great at stopping those huge drag ripping runs.
Fishing into the mouth of a small creek, this 8' alligator decided he also wanted to eat my chatterbait, and it was a crazy fight on the 843 NRX/Curado 51E with 20lb Maxcuatro tied to 15lb leader. Was able to lift him to the surface several times for some pictures and video, and tried to get my bait back to no avail.

Nice red! Yep, I have had a gator decide to eat my bait a few times, mostly on Seminole and the Stick Marsh, but in a couple of ponds down in south GA, too....and never anything that size! Unless they are 3 ft or less, I don't even attempt to retrieve my lure lol!
