Wow!! And all that on 8# test, beautiful stuff!Hogsticker2 wrote:How about a 5 lb 5 oz smallmouth . Don't usually use this worm, but I ran out of Jackall flick shakes and picked these up locally. Think I'll keep them in the rotation! Custom 683ml Phenix K2 (Thanks Vinnie!). Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!
First night trip of the season last night at a sand pit. Stumbled upon these freakishly large bluegills - - one of the finest fighting fish you'll encounter on ultralight tackle. Long drag stripping runs, some of them actually towed my kayak a slight bit. I stop bass fishing as long as these guys are around, they're too much fun to pass up.
After dark the crappie showed up. The one in the second picture was just a tic under 14" ... one of the biggest Iv'e ever caught. That one actually put up a fight, which most crappie don't usually do.

Re: Enough with the tackle. LETS SEE SOME FISH!
Been on paternity leave for the past 3 weeks. Finally got out to fish for a couple hours. Lost 2 caught 2.
3 came on a 1/8 Ned rig. This one pictured caught on a home poured ball jig (1/8 oz) and Paca tiny craw.

Some recent pics.....haven't gotten out much this year with home projects and kids sports....but its been fun anyway!
Some favorite Iowa trout streams
Here is what you get when you take a picture of some nice trout using a cell phone shot through a polarized sunglasses lens
I normally use bamboo fly rods.....much the same ideology as JDM bass tackle
Megabass Bearing Down Type X/Conquest 50S and some fun with my younger son

Fish pictures I posted from my phone didn't work right. Trying again from computer...
~5lb+ Lake of the Ozarks largemouth from my anniversary mini-vacation:
Guys family fishing trip to Lac Seul in Canada. We stayed at Lac Seul Outposts http://www.lacseuloutposts.com/ Nice cabins, friendly staff, decent boats, affordable, fishing was good (but not great, though some of the other groups had better luck than us).
Pelican Lake Bedding Smallmouth from behind hotel in Sioux Narrows. Full disclosure, I waded out and spotted it, but my cousin Mike (pictured) caught it (my fishing license didn't kick in until the following day).
My Brother caught the only Musky of the week for our group (38"). We saw another boat that caught a 48.5" monster. We saw one over 50" that we couldn't get to commit to a strike. It was scary big. I have no idea how we would have got it in the boat had we managed to hook it.
I only caught one SMB on Lac Seul. The big females were on beds somewhere, but we couldn't seem to locate them.
My best walleye of the week was 24.5". Another group pulled a 30+" supposedly.
The group's best walleye was caught by my dad and measured 27".
My best fish was a Pike pushing 39". A few inches shorter than the one in my avatar, but this one was all muscle and weighted about 5lb more.
We fished around the rapids at the base of these falls and caught tons of small walleyes.
In the same area, Mike caught the biggest fish of the trip, a 40" Pike every bit the stud mine was. The picture doesn't do it justice.
Happy fishing!
