Pistol grip paytime.
Pistol grip paytime.
Thanks to some inspiration from GARRIGA and ecu daniel 14 I built myself a small pistol grip rod a couple of weeks ago. I did it on the cheap ($73.87 total) thinking if I liked it and it got a lot of deck time I'd make myself a better rod this winter. Well after today I'm thinking the one I made is going to be just fine. I hit one of my favorite rivers today and had a ball with it. I caught over three dozen largemouth on it today all of them coming on a Megabass Type X, maybe the perfect pistol grip lure. Man what a fun way to fish. Here's the first eight fish I caught this morning before the batteries on my camera died. Thank's for the inspiration TT.

good-looking stick.
hopefully, there will always be a place on the water for a well made pistol grip.

don't cry because it's over...smile because it happened.

Good looking rod, and I can't believe you caught that many good size fish in one day. I think my day is good when I catch half a dozen . What blank did you use by the way? Specs?

Thank's guys. I used a Mud Hole IM6 Graphite IS601M blank, a ACS reel seat, a 5" Super Grade Cork Pistol Grip, one mirco top and 11 #4 BMKOG Fuji mircos (spiral wrapped to the right.) Maybe the cheapest and easiest rod I've ever made, but still one of the funnest. The blank is a big surprise to me it loads perfectly for casting with the short grip, it makes for really accurate caster.

Nice fishes. Cool thing, bringing back the pistol grip!
Re: Pistol grip paytime.
What a day!
From the coloration of the bass, I would guess that they came from pretty clear water. From the lure you used, I am guessing that they were shallow. That combination of factors often calls for longer-than-normal casts, but I wouldn't expect that from a six-foot rod, a lure that size, and a Viento. Was it the overcast conditions that let you get close enough to do so well with this tackle? Was the water riffled?

The water was pretty dirt and it was overcast. The river I was fishing isn't that big and you can cast across it at most points. The fish are always shallow there as the deepest spot is maybe 14 feet.Bronzeye wrote:What a day!
