Golden Gate Salmon on the Rocks

Post by spicytuna » Thu Aug 11, 2011 4:44 pm

Plugged on the rocks in SF Bay for chinook salmon. Threw 1/2 oz. Pen Tac spinners in Chartreuse / Silver, Green, and Watermelon. Fish hit about 40 yards out on the Chartreuse / Silver. I was reeling slow and steady, and all of a sudden I felt like I was stuck and my rod was bent to one side. Set the hook, and after the first run, I knew that I had a nice fish. I fed her plenty of line and played the fish carefully, making sure she didn't jump. About 10 minutes later, I landed a nice 16 lb. female king salmon. First salmon from shore for me this year.

Rod: 7' G. Loomis MBR 843C IMX
Reel: Custom Tuned Daiwa Zillion Coastal 4.9
Line: 12 lb. Toray Hi-Class Solaroam Bass Fluorocarbon
Lure: Custom Made Pen-Tac Spinner Chartreuse / Silver

Very cool. How is the 4.9 Coastal treating you? I bet she's a pretty beast.

That's an impressive catch from shore with all those rocks around there. Great catch, congrats.

Its been many years since I plugged for those salmon over in Benicia. Glad to see they're back and within reach from shore. Congrats on a nice chrome.
