IT IS HERE.. NEW DOBYNS ROD!!!

Post by Bass Pro » Mon May 14, 2007 2:23 pm

Gary Dobyns is the man!!! :big grin:

If I were to get another rod custom built, I'd design it the same way Gary did with the Champion Series. Split grip, no foregrip with a counter balance weight added for perfect balance! Yes, that's right, counterbalanced included. Just awesome quality for a rod like this. It is very well built, the thread wraps are black with a nice blue highlight to them. The epoxy is even, smooth, and very precise.

Oh, and the reel is a 50Mg with VXB ABEC 7 ceramic hybrids, Carbontex carbon fiber drag upgrade, and ZPI Platinum 85mm carbon fiber handle. The baitmonkey says, "carbon fiber inly on rod + carbon fiber handle on reel = :D !!"

NICE stick!! Let us know how you like it once you get to fish with it.

Not sure if you have owned any Powells...but if you have, a compare and contrast between the Dobyns 683c and the Powell 683c would be nice too.. :)

...do you have a weight on that dobyns 683c by chance?

Thanks Bass Pro for the kind words. I really tried to touch all bases. Number one was make a great rod, number two was I wanted a good looking rod. On a day that I'm scrambling for rod photos, a buddy shoots me this post. Just a little salt in my wound. Thank you very much for the post. It's appreciated.

'grats Bass Pro, but one comment.

I think you need to go back to the standard ZPI handle on your Chronarch MG to match the woven graphite pattern at the rear grip of the rod ;)

Very nice. My buddy just picked up the 703. He chose it over the Powell.

Good to see you finally got your rod Bass Pro!..is what you think of the rod pretty much in line with what I've told you so far? Be sure to let us know how it goes as soon as you get it out on the water..then we can compare notes on how it fishes as well. :D

Im waiting to get my hands on one to compare with my Powell. 8-) They do look very nice and a lil more exotic with the fiber weave in back. I want to know what the weight of the 683C is. :?
