Pics: New Megabass Rod--
Got my new Megabass rod in yesterday from Masaki. I got the F5-66X. It is touted on Megabass's website as the American anglers ultimate Texas rig rod. After casting it all morning, it indeed does live up to the hype. It has an extra fast blank and is much akin to the coveted BCR803 GLX.
The F5-66X is slightly lighter and better balance overall than the BCR803 GLX. This is mostly just due to being 2" shorter than the 803. The F5-66X lacks nothing in sensitivity. Overall its weight is in between a MBR783 GLX and a BCR803 GLX.
Casting- it is a deadly accurate caster. With its extra fast taper, it has the same low casting trajectory as the BCR803 GLX which makes for some very precise casts.
If I had to pick one word to describe this rod, it would be "intricate."
The detailing is just stunning to see in person. The pictures do the Megabass rods no justice. The thread wraps and epoxy are just perfect. Not one hair is out of place on the rod. The thread wraps have four, yes 4, different colors! The 2 main colors are green and red. However, the devil is in the details, both colors do not look green nor red until they are under the sun light. In the shade or in a normal lit room, both primary thread wrap colors appear to be a dark blue and black. But once in the sunlight they come alive and the deep red hue and emerald green hues become apparent. It is just stunning to see! The wraps are then highlighted with purple and gold threads. Also, it has a carbon weave that goes about a third of the way up the blank. It's just another detail that adds so much to the overall look of the rod.
