2 Days of Smallmouth and Pike Fishing in Northwest NM

Post by TazerFloyd » Sun Aug 20, 2006 9:24 am

I had a couple of free days in the middle of the week to go scout a lake that my dad is wanting to come out and fish this fall. Normally I prefer to flyfish, but for this trip I decided to break out the conventional gear considering that is how my dad likes to fish.

Hope you enjoy the pictures. All of the bass were caught on Sammy 100's until around 10:00am and then the rest were fooled with Pointer 78's and 4" Yum Dingers fished at 20 to 25 feet.

I apologize if I've posted a few too many pics, but I always enjoy looking at fish.

Any websites you know of that could give me some tips for new mexico fishing?

Arley, send me a pm and we can trade e-mail addresses. The Chama is about my favorite place to fish in the entire state for big brown trout, but you will also be in a good central location for quick trips to some good bass fishing as well. I don't know of any good "all-around" websites devoted to New Mexico fishing. However, I've just about done it all when it comes to fishing out here and if there is something that I don't know then I would at least be able to put you in touch with someone who does.

Here are a couple of extra pictures from the same lake. I had a couple of odd catches including a little Bluegill on a Gunfish 95 and big Northern Pike on a 4 inch Yum Dinger.

I also got caught out in a freak hailstorm that quickly blew in and forced me out of my boat and into a little cave for shelter.

At least the smallmouth fishing was good right after the storm.
