Which Vanquish for Megabass P5 LANDSAT

Post by Fran87 » Tue Aug 15, 2023 5:24 pm

Hello guys I need your help;

I'm decided to buy a new Vanquish the problem is that I don't know which size would be better for this rod & application primeraly ( drophshot and neko and some free rig for largemouth bass ).

2500S vs C3000SDH both have same spool and body size but there are different regarding to brake drag.
2500 is 4kg against 9kg from C3000SDH

The question is, which drag would be better and smoother the one which has less capacity of kg or de bigger one?

Thanks in advance

The bigger the drag washers the better it will always be (in theory)... however, with the Vanquish you are absolutely splitting hairs and I don't think you will see a tangible difference. I have the 2500S and honestly I couldn't tell you which has a better drag between it and my 2500 Stella, it's that good. The new Vanquish 23s are amazing, and personally I like it more than my Stella in many aspects.

WITH THAT SAID, get the reel size (1000,2500,3000) that is going to fit the rod the best... don't worry about the drag at all when you're in that level of reels, there are guys winning $100k on $200 Stradics.

Side note: Don't worry about the kg drag rating... you will never need 4kg (8.8lbs) of drag on a P5 Landsat, and definitely not 9kg (19.8 lbs)

Neither!

I vote the C2500S for a Landsat. Even lighter and even finer drag.

I vote any of the 2500 size.
Vanquish is a great reel.
The Daiwa Airity is a great color match for the Megabass P5.
The Airity is also a great choice.

Both 2500 and C3000 are 2500 size body and rotor.

Do you think the litghter drag would be finer?

Thanks for the replys

Typically with bigger drag washers the better/more consistent your drag would be and actually be able to notice it (this applies way more to lower end gear vs high end gear)... most guys buy it for that and not the max drag pressure that can be applied. That's one of the reasons why you will see smallmouth guys fishing with 4-7lb test and still using lower-mid tier reels in 3000-4000 size if they really care about it.

With higher end reels though you are splitting hairs. If pros are running around with $200 price range reels (ie. Stradics) catching smallies on light line for $100k, I'm sure with any high end reel (Exsence / Vanquish / Stella / Exist) you're already on a different level when it comes to drag quality. You probably won't be able to tell the difference between a high end 1000,2500,3000 while bass fishing... I know I can't tell the difference. Which goes back to pick the reel that fits the rod and don't worry about the drag.

Side note: The only other advantages to a bigger spool size could be cast distance as it will come off the spool better, and with a bigger spool you can get a higher line take-up as well depending on the model. With higher end reels these two things would be a bigger consideration for me than the drag

Everything that DanB said, drag performance should be a wash at this price level. And with the baits that you're throwing (and the breaking strength of the line you'll presumably be using, I can't imagine more than 10lbs leaders), you don't need more than 4kg of drag strength. I'd just go with the reel that fits better.

I run a 2000 size Vanquish on my 821 NRR (ML rod). Exists 2000 on Steez AGS The Ned. But then 2500 size Stellas on the M-powered rods. It's weird sometimes: the 2000 Vanquish seems to fit better on the 821 NRR, a 2500 would feel too big. But the 2500 Stella feels very good on the 822 DSR and the 2000 Vanquish feels too small, even though both are quite similar rods. (Sure: one is a ML rod, the other a M rod, but they're both finesse 6'10" sticks.)

On a F3-power Destroyer rod I'd personally not go to a 3000 if I can help it. I'd choose between 2000 and 2500 sizes.

Since the Airity was mentioned earlier, Plat.co.jp has some at 30% off right now in case that something you want to consider. Their golden accents do great with P5 rods, just like mrpao mentioned in an earlier post.

Too late, they've been picked through. Only 2500S and 4000+ reels are left... so not too many options now.

Kinda sucks this isn't a Windbuster discussion, I would say get an Exsence and be done with it. That combo is perfect... I wish I owned a Landsat so I could know what fits good on it. I feel knowing what type of rod the Landsat is though a Exsence would feel stupid on it.

Dan B & Drakestar thank you very much for your complete explanation.

Drakestar, take into account that all the size I'm considering are 2500 max ( C3000 is a 2500 size body/spool )

I've find this video take a look if you can , there is a Tatula 3000( 6.5oz ) with P5 landsat and the balance is really good...

If the 2500 and the C3000 share the same body and rotor. What is the difference? On Shamino's website they show the same size spool. Only difference I see is line capacity and 5 grams heavier.
