DRT rods, tho

Post by SSS » Sat Jul 15, 2023 9:47 am

Saw this one sell on yahoo today. WTF are those prices  I know this brand is as overpriced as they come, but this broke all my wildest expectations. Ridiculous.

You can probably fly to Japan, knock on the door of the DRT facility, guilt them into selling you a rod out of pity, after telling them you traveled from the US to buy one thinking it was over the counter, for less than that (flight and rod).

They certainly have mastered the art of reserve selling. Thier new Alva Limited consistantly re-sells for between 5-6k, I think it is less than $800 retail.

Rare, obscure, high quality, hand made, and hype. Add that all up and you get $$$$.

The same could be said for their swimbaits. I had a couple variations and never caught a single fish on either of them. On the upside, I was able to sell them for a profit.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

It's a blessing to have an open free market of capitalism...when properly wielded for the benefit of a free people.

I’m with you. Seen a few baits, they were ‘nice’ but come on… Hype to my eyes. All of it. And those junk $2 looking ‘knobs’ some covet? Folks can have all the DRT they want, they'll get NO competition from me. But I do appreciate the constant good laughs I get seeing money folks throw on the brand. Laughter is important, keeps the soul young.

I’m not into business, sales and the like, but just on the surface the drt business model does not make sense to me. They sell their rods at premium swimbait rod prices, but their rod prices are not out of the ordinary compared to other makers. It’s just that they sell only a handful every blue moon and meanwhile generate crazy hype with their social media etc. So then it seems like the few guys who somehow manage to get their hands on them go right back and flip them at crazy pricess because there apparently are plenty of fools who will pay used car money for a single rod. But it does not seem like drt is benefiting from those fools willing to give up a kidney for their rods. It would make more sense to me if they just sold more rods at their msrp prices. Maybe they make their money on their baits and handles and only use the rods to generate hype. I don’t know.

Artificial scarcity and hype is all this is.

Yes, it is "created" by their production standards.
