Not even going to lie, bought the previous model due to the finish. I wanted to be the flyest on the water. I have had random people walk by and they comment on the reel when fishing it.

There's no way I would pay for this new model personally. Performance and gear ratio aside, it's no where as nice looking as the Abu one which was way less expensive. In a similar fashion to the pic below, I added an inexpensive carbon handle with purplish knobs to mine and it made it look even better than stock.

I’ll admit to having the “tourist” gene sometimes. I’m actually pretty surprised I didn’t pick one up …

KTF getting into the game? Looks like the same model the Kistler reels use. This is a variant of the platform the Alcance uses which I belive is a Banax. BPS also used this platform for their last gen Bionic Plus reel. I paid $60 for the one I had. Shame they want to put one of their spools into a $100 reel and charge $600 for it. I'd rather see that treatment in a Daiwa, Shimano or Abu with one of their spools.

Sometimes I think Japanese anglers have a level of respect toward ABU American anglers don’t. Maybe, Daiwa and Shimano don’t get the level of respect Americans give to those companies. ZPI and G-Nius and other customization places get some business that American companies don’t.

Banax also does work for some Daiwa projects.

Pure fishing/Abu dropped Katsutaki Imae’s sponsorship after years of sponsoring him. Hence, he’s fishing/modding/selling ‘genius’ reels now instead of abus. Happens all the time in our tournament trials here in the US. The slight difference is that his relationship with abu had been really long lasting, so this was a bit of a surprise.
