Ss sv side plate change

Post by Sh402 » Fri Jan 28, 2022 5:25 am

Hey guys are the any alternatives to the Zion side covers on the ss sv 103 like aluminum . If so what models are direct swaps. Hopefully get rid of the hollow feeling.
Thanks

Not worth it. It would be better to upgrade to brass gears from TTT and maintain with an annual clean and regrease. Your only side plate options are equally hollow magnesium alloy which may not even fit do to a tweak in the frame design to accommodate larger diameter gears that I believe coincides with the change to Zaion handle side plates. A brass gear upgrade will also enable a multi stack drag assembly too. I'm not a huge drag number proponent but SS SV103 stock drag is about appropriate for BFS only.

The OG Steez SHA sideplate fits, but it is cost-prohibitive. You'd be best served to get a used steez sha and sell the ss sv.

All I can find in the older steez platforms are 6:3 gears. Do you know if anyone has lefty 7 gears instock. For some reason they are hard to come by.

Prohibitively expensive these days but if you have a reel you really like then this is an option. With the two I had I just resided myself to the face that they were always going to be hollow gritty reels. If I want butter it's aluminum frame and side plate with brass gears and I take the weight penalty.

I don’t know why the gears feel gritty but I always just upgraded to the 7.9:1 gears in that reel. I have one that’s pretty darn smooth like cocobutta smooth

The Steez SV, the model before the t-wing, has an 8.1 gear option that will fit the SS SV.
