Yeah...the top gun isn't a 'jig rod'. I imagine it is similar to the poison glorious 7-4"MH versatile (which I love).DragonMaJig wrote: ↑Tue Apr 26, 2022 7:38 pmJig fishing and bottom contact, 21 Strike Force 100% over the new Top Gun.

I probably should have gotten the first strike as well but i need to see how I like these

Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
Seems the handle grip is rather short and has caused me to switch out reels to see which balances better with it.
i tried the steez limited that i saw on here, a OG fuego and i keep going back to the sv103 xs

Bringing this back...
My intended usage would be essentially the same as the OP. I see this rod handles 5/16 oz T-rigs well, but mainly interested in it for 1/2 oz jigs plus trailer. Anyone with experience using the Topgun for jigs at this point?
I prefer a longer rod in the 7'4"-7'6" range and the non-AGS guides are a plus in my mind. I'm also considering the USDM Bottom Contact 2, but I have the the Heavy Cover Special and I find the handle to be a bit longer than I prefer and it appears that the BC2 has the exact same length handle. Please correct me if I'm wrong here. The rod will be paired with a SV103XSL.
Any additional thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
I haven't used the Top Gun, but I have used all the Steez AGS rods quite a bit. The 74XH Heavy Cover Special has a slightly longer handle than the 75MH/H Bottom Contact II. The BCII has 11" butt to where the cork meets the reel seat, HCS has 11 1/4". Both rods pair nicely with the SV103XSL indeed.Craiger12 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 5:00 amBringing this back...

Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
That's great info, thanks for the exact measurement. I wish it was more like 1/2" shorter, but the BC2 is definitely still in the running. Can you give any feedback comparing the power and action of the HCS vs the BC2? Any info regarding balance point would be greatly appreciated also. Thanks again.bronzefly wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 6:01 amI haven't used the Top Gun, but I have used all the Steez AGS rods quite a bit. Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
You're welcome. The 74XH HCS obviously has more power and a deeper flex further into the blank. The 75MH/H BC2 has a faster, more "traditional" jig rod action. One of the advantages to both of these rods is the longer handle as it helps create a more comfortable balance point than if the handles were 10" or something like that. I typically keep a tricked out Steez SV TW on the BC2, though the Zillion G does feel a little bit better in terms of balance, but I don't mind the feel of the Steez on there because that combo just makes me smile. This fall, I did quite a bit of punching with the 74XH HCS paired with a Tatula Elite P/F. It is also a very comfortable feel for me. I had a Zillion HD on it quite a bit fishing frogs and thoroughly enjoyed the performance and feel of that combo too.Craiger12 wrote: ↑Tue Feb 07, 2023 6:45 amThat's great info, thanks for the exact measurement. Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
Are you talking about the JDM Steez Top Gun 7’4”?
Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
The new one (2021/22/23) is supposed to be a crankin’ rod, that’s why I was curious.
Re: Daiwa Steez 21 74MH+ Topgun
Can one of you guys that owns the Topgun please give me a measurement on the rear grip length?
