Well, after reading all this, and a little research, I just placed and order with Digitaka for the 2021 Conquest 101HG. I still have a new met and alphas still in their boxes, but somehow I needed a new reel. Thanks,

What is the consensus on the 2021 Calcutta Conquest 100 size vs the 2019 Antares A?

I have the later and wonder if I should get another one or try the 2021 CC.

Primarily throwing lighter lures 1/4oz - 3/8oz with the reel.

Thanks!

Hi,

A couple of tackle shops near me is beginning to carry the brand new 2021 Conquest. If you had managed to cast and fish with one, can you share your experience? I'm currently using a 2019 Conquest DC 201HG. I am considering adding a 101HG size reel, and is still deciding between the 19 DC 101HG or the 2021 mechanical Conquest model... The drag and all other mechanism seems to be identical between the 2019 DC and the 2021 Conquest model, so I guess the difference is just between the casting quality, and the color.

Your comments and recommendations would be much appreciated!

Best Regards
HI!

Which CC did you end up choosing? I am thinking of maybe getting the 2021 101HG as well for my senko rod. Since distance and cast control is important to me as well, I would love to hear your (and others?!) experience.

I have a Antares 70HG that I can compare with.
I ended up with the centrifugal Conquest HG, but not because I think the Conquest DC is not as good, but because I also got myself a 21 Antares DC, so a mechanical Conquest would be a better distribution of investment. :). As for the casting capabilities, the Conquest is capable of of incredible distance, just like the Antares DC in X mode, but requires more care and smoothness especially when casting less dense lure into a head wind. The Antares DC in any mode other than the "X" mode lets you get away with a lot of sloppiness, but trades off in just a little bit of distance. I like the new "X" mode although it is less forgiving because it allows you un-shackle from the more restrictive DC control previously and really get your lure way out there when the conditions requires it. In terms of built and smoothness, the Conquest HG is still unrivaled in my opinion. Don't get me wrong, the 21 Antares DC is smooth as butter, no slop in the gear at all and a vast improvement over the 18 Antares DC MD, but the Conquest has a more solid feel to it. The out-going drag clicker on the Conquest is another feature I wish the Antares has!
Thanks for taking the time to reply. Would you think that the 2021 conquest is a good choice to throw 1/4 - 3/8oz jigs and plastics?

Thanks again!
I think the 2021 Conquest would do just fine with jigs and plastics because they are dense and reasonably heavy. It starts getting challenging when you start getting into 1/8oz floating minnows. :D

If memory serves me correctly - and who knows about that these days - I'm pretty sure the Conquest DC has it ;)
Amen to that. Now if only Shimano would start putting that clicker on the Antares too.... Daiwa has it on the low-profile Morethan without significant compromise on drag washer surface area so it is certainly technically possible

Thanks! I think I will go with the 2021 CC (non DC)! The 2021 Antares DC might become my future frog reel. Let's see what happens. ;-)

Hi freelancer27, Just relating my personal experience when I face a tough decision between 2 very good reels, the correct choice is usually to get both!

Haha, yeah. Been there, done that. Since I only need one reel to put on my 7'1 MH Steez AGS, I want to stick with only (THE) one! :)

Let me know what you think of the 2021 Conquest after you had fished with it!

I just got my new 21 Conquest 101HG. Smooth, really smooth. And small, really small. Not sure what to do with it yet. I put some 8lb fluoro on it and fished some moving baits on a Conquest CNQ903. It felt OK.

I notice the movement of the level wind was pretty fast and may be good for using 30lb braid to avoid line digging.

I do like the reel, but right now I need some ideas of how to fully utilize what its best at doing? Braid or Fluoro, moving or jigs?

What lures ( and their weight) were you throwing?

Sorry for my lack a clarity on my comments and thanks for requesting clarity.

I fish all kinds of lures from Ned rigs (BFS) up to magnum spoons and 8" glide baits. I have dozens of rods and reels that cover most any situation. I don't think that I am much different to many others the frequent this forum. I bought the Conquest 101HG to see how it compares and see what it was all about. So far I am in the process of doing that. I was hoping to get some input on what this reel is really good at. In what application does it excel? What line type would be best advantaged with use on this reel and seemingly fast moving line guide.

I have no doubt this Conquest will find a spot in my rotation and was looking to hear from others how they use theirs.

I am particularly curious to hear your thoughts on the more finesse side of things.

I have been using the Conquest 101HG on both a North Forks MH733 and an Expride 610M. I have used 8lb Tatsu and 30lb Suffix 832. I have been using it alongside an Alde 51 and switching things, line and rod, back and forth. I like having the braid on the Conquest, Fluoro on the Alde. The Conquest on the Expride and the Alde on the MB733. The Expride is heavier than my 733 build and the Conquest seems better balanced on the heavier Expride rod. I have been throwing ⅜ squarebill and ½ oz jerkbaits on both setups. Now I have jerkbaits on the Conquest/Expride/Braid setup and squarebills on the Alde/MB733/Fluoro setup and likely with stay that way for a while.

Caught a 4lb SM on the jerkbait this week and really liked how the Conquest and Expride handle the hard pulls of the fish.

Had some time with my 2021 CC 101HG (on a NRX+ 893c, 14lb sunline sniper camo).

First impressions: this thing is tiny. Like really tiny. I was a bit worried first that this reel would be too fragile. I was wrong.

The reel is really smooth, maybe a tiny bit smoother even than my Antares 70. Its a different smoothness than a Steez SV TW though. While the Shimanos always give you this feel of a Rolex (when you screw down one), the Steez are much free feeling and remind me a bit more of a Porsche. I like both feeling with a slight preference for the Steez.

While my 4year old Steez SV TW is still as smooth as the day i got it (after countless bank fishing trips, where i dont really baby my gear), the Shimanos have yet to proof their long term smoothness. I sold a 2019 CC DC 201HG because it lost its smoothness after a few months. My 2018 Antares DC MD feels pretty geary (and i took this reel apart multiple times for full cleans) My 2108 CC 401 is still smooth, though makes a really weird sound when I cast it).

Performance wise the 2021 CC 101 HG is a solid performer. It casts 3/8oz lures far enough, has more than enough drag and palms nicely (i have larger hands) with the NRX.
Verybclose to the Antares 70 in my opinion. It really comes down to which form you prefer.

It is a bit more finicky in varying wind and lure consitions, than a Steez SV TW. The Steez you basically set to 4-6 and forget it. The CC requires a bit more adjusting. I have to add though that my experience is impacted by the Sunline FC camo line. This line feels quite a bit stiffer than a comparable 14lb line of Tatsu or Sniper FC.

Would I buy it again? Yes, since it just feels like such a solid piece of engineering!

I was even debating to get the 201HG for my chatterbait rod. Decided then to try something new and different and went with the 2021 Antares DC XG.

Cheers y'all!
