Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
Anyone have experience with this rod? Looks like it might be the EG rod for big conventional stuff and/or Swimbaits in that 0.5-6oz range. I’ve got a few other Inspirare models that are great, I could see the magnum version being a joy to fish... haven’t seen any mention of this model.

Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
Hey,
i'm using it since about 1,5 years. Mainly fishing soft swimbaits/swimbaits for european pike on it. Absolutely beautiful rod, it is soooo incredible powerful and sensitive, despite being well balanced and light. Torays T1100G material realy gives a certain "stickiness" to it. Hooksets are powerful and it casts a mile.
0.5-6oz range seems about right, i have been using it at its top end (up to Slide Swimmer 250).
Evergreens homepage recommends also using it for jigs and heavy carolina rigs and i'd strongly confirm that.
Please let me know if you have any further questions

Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
Awesome info, much appreciated. I was thinking about it for the same baits, up for the Deps 250. I was leaning toward more swimbaits and jerkbaits.
Is the tip very rigid? Could you work a conventional wood/plastic jerkbait with it or is the tip too soft to have the response needed to tap-tap-tap a jerkbait cadence?
Also what is the length of the rear grip behind the reel seat?
Thanks.

Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
No Problem
Tip is rigid enough to give jerkbaits a good beating, i'm not sure about the length though. 7'10" would be to much for me for fishing jerks.
You can find the handle length on the homepage, hope this screenshot helps.
If you need more pictures, i can put a measuring tape next to the rod.

Looks great. Might have to check it out.
Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
That is a sweet rod. I love the super stallion GT. I was considering getting one of these myself for punching because they are so light and balanced.
Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
Bringing this one back up. Recently acquired this rod and I’ll echo fishinblack that the Grand Stallion GTX is very capable of the 0.5-6oz range. I was wondering if this was going to be a classic JDM rating with a questionable top end but this rod will launch 6 oz baits in its sleep. Sensitivity as expected is absolutely off the charts for a rod of this caliber. Action is a true fast and very smooth and progressive, would make a hell of a flippin/punching/heavy-jig rod too for folks that like long rods. It’s very similar in power and action to the NRX916 and similar power to the Poison Glorious 76XXH but faster in action, for ppl familiar with either of those rods. All three of those rods are awesome and can boat flip a 5 pounder buried in salad when the need arises but the Grand Stallion GTX gets the edge in ultimate sensitivity and enthusiast build level appeal.

I'm so happy that you have found your match! Which reel did you choose?Cranky wrote: ↑Fri Apr 17, 2020 8:15 pmBringing this one back up. Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
This was a rod I was strongly considering for swimbaits. I know both of you mentioned how well it handled the top end of it's lure rating, but what would you consider it's sweet spot? 3oz? 4oz? Also how well does it handle the low end? The lure range seems pretty extreme and the 0.5oz low end seems amazing if true. I wouldn't anticipate throwing anything less than 2 oz on this rod, but would like to know to get a better overall understanding of the rod. Thanks.
Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
It’s a pretty interesting rod for sure. I’d say sweet spot is probably somewhere in the 2-4oz range for me but I’m planning to use it over the whole range. It does cast a Deps 250 (6.5oz) and Baitsmith Mag (5.6oz) well too, although those are definitely pushing the upper limit for me and I wouldn’t quite recommend it if those were the only purpose. Threw a 4.8oz Hudd beautifully and fishes that bait like a dream though. If you’re a pure lob caster it could probably go a little heavier but I cast with more of a wind piercing low trajectory myself. It’s a faster and snappier action than most typical Swimbait rods but it has that great deeper JDM load up that keeps fish pinned. I tried a 1/2oz chatterbait and spinnerbait just to check the low end and it fires them like a rocket, but since you’re not loading the rod much with those weights it’s pretty much a shorter laser beam cast. The sensitivity is off the charts for a rod this powerful, I almost laughed the first few handle cranks with a chatterbait. Needless to say Im impressed. It’s sort of the Evergreen version of the Megabass Super Red Demon with a wide fishable range of applications but way higher end performance. Tuned by Imae using T1100G skeleton with 50T skin and Ti/torzite guides, it’s sort of an obscure rod hiding in plain sight that’s way off the radar for some reason.
This is one really, really special rod.

Oh man I can’t wait to get my hands on mine. That full handle velvety EVA is my favorite. I sent it to my other address on accident which is 2 hours away. Your reviews are making me impatient right now. I can’t wait to burn some big trash fish through the tulles with it, or do some punching.
Re: Evergreen Grand Stallion GTX?
Not trying to light you on fire or anything Dom but it’s gotta be about one of the best rods ever made for fishing the Delta. Just saying.
