High End JDM spinning rod help
High End JDM spinning rod help
Which high-end JDM rod would you suggest/pick for ultimate ned rig rod and small jerkbaits (X-80Jr., FX6.6, Yo-zuri Pins Minnow, etc)
So far contenders are:
1. SHIMANO POISON ULTIMA 2610L-S 2-7g 6'10" solid tip, dia. 0.8mm
Released by Shimano a month ago 04/2019 in Japan, so far almost zero reviews.
http://fishing.shimano.co.jp/product/rod/3533
2. STEEZ RACING DESIGN RD 651L + XS-SMT 6'5" 1.4-7g SMT (solid metal tip) dia. 1.6mm
http://www.daiwa.com/jp/fishing/item/ro ... index.html
Obviously a great rod, just the 6'5" is seems to be a little too short.
Also looked at LUXXE OLTRE S63L 1-7g 6'3" titanium tip dia. 0.9mm
http://www.gamakatsu.co.jp/client/produ ... Code=24228
Seems to be a great rod, wish would be 5-7 inches longer.
Or maybe save money and get the St. Croix Legend Elite ES70LF 1/16-1/4Oz
I like St. Croix spinning rods in general, can't really trust St. Croix, they never been accurate on a lower end of compatible lure weight.
Never owned a rod with a solid tip, and as always - options, options, options... make the choice even more complicated

Re: High End JDM spinning rod help
I have looked at these three rods myself, not for Ned specifically, but for this general purpose.
As a general reference I have an ultima 72h, RD 71mh, and oltre 69mh. Each rod became an instant favorite right after I got it. After time with all three with overlapping techniques, the RD has emerged as my personal favorite. All three are supremely balanced and sensitive and the craftsmanship is equivalently top notch. The combination of perfect taper, balance, unique sensitivity, and just comfort in accurate casting of the RD just perfectly matches my style of fishing. I think I could pick it out if some type of blind test were possible, but all three are great in their own way. I wouldn’t get rid of the others to fish just RDs; I like variety. But, I can’t bring myself to get either of those daiwa or luxxe spinning models because of the length. Some years ago, it would not have been an issue. While sub 7’ casting rods still are a part of my arsenal, I just don’t use spinning rods under too far under 7 any more and prefer around 76 for a spinning outfit.
That ultima is highest on my list for that simple reason. Since the titanium tip of the oltre is no longer a mystery to me, I’m also intrigued to try the solid tip on the ultima. In any case, the oltre tip is the deal. That ting you feel is instant adrenaline. I’ve had no issues with hard hooksets either. Although I’ve been cautious when setting up on a spot if I’m fishing bank, to make sure there nothing behind me that I could swing it into because I don’t want to do that test. I doubt this rambling was of any help other to say that I’m glad someone else is looking at those so I may get feedback on one of the three in the future.

Re: High End JDM spinning rod help
I'd be looking at something a little longer and maybe with a little higher top end, depending on what size ned, and even with an X80jr.
Something a little different, you would be the first, I know of.. Sedition
https://www.bass.co.jp/index.php?od=pd& ... 01GIM00377
The Efreet 6'6M solid tip
http://www.gamakatsu.co.jp/client/produ ... Code=24408
or the Zyphros 6'10L Solid
http://www.gamakatsu.co.jp/client/produ ... Code=24547
Even longer...little heavier
Designo 10th anniversary Verse

or
I just picked up a ITO ICBM 7'10 new in wrapper, I might move.
or if you could find it a JDM NFC
https://www.backlash.co.jp/item/4573302 ... 0&od=1&p=2
Hope I am not breaking any rules, there is no Designo or J.Custom brand websites. Only way I can pass on the info.

These have been fun to read about. Thank you for expanding horizons as always Aquftm.Aquaftm45 wrote: ↑Fri May 03, 2019 3:58 pmI'd be looking at something a little longer and maybe with a little higher top end, depending on what size ned, and even with an X80jr.

Re: High End JDM spinning rod help
Another couple of spinning rods that I forgot to mention, partially becuase they are so hard to find. Zenaq. They have a tight distribution network, which makes it hard to ship to the US. I am sure one of the trusted snipers could pick it if found.
From this page, The "Wide Shooter and the "Dragger" Both use TI/TOR guides, Torayca 1100G material and are 100% made in Japan. Zenaq pro's are some of the top contenders/winners on the Japan Bass circuts.
http://zenaq.com/rod_zenaq/rod_fantastic/bka/bka.html
With all that said...the new glorious looks pretty amazing. And who could go wrong with an RD.
Personally, the only time I am grabbing my spinning rod is when I want to throw light weight a really long distance, that is why I gravitate toward longer spinning rods. Figure I can use a baitcaster in any othe situation

Re: High End JDM spinning rod help
I believe you can buy Zenaq through Plat. They have had some of the shore casting salt rods listed before and are pretty good about getting custom orders if you want to go that way.
Re: High End JDM spinning rod help
Gentlemen,
I decided, I'll go with Shimano Ultima 2610L-S, the length was the deciding factor, can't except (mentally) anything lower than 6'10". Should be a great combo paired with Vanquish 2500SHG or C2500SHG.
Thank you so much your valuable input! Learning everyday by reading this forum! TT rocks!
