Megabass Alphas Ito plastic

Post by Patex » Fri Mar 08, 2019 8:38 am

I have a friend who has the Alphas Ito and the clear plastic turned yellow. Any ideas how this can be cleaned?

It might be tough, and not sure how abrasive the stuff is, but maybe that headlight clearing stuff. I’ve never used it, but only thing I can think of that might have a chance. Any damage please don’t hold me responsible.

I thought the same thing. I'd just leave it alone and call it a vintage patina.

Replace those parts with an SV105 sideplate and front clip, call it a day.

This has worked for me for polycarbonate face shields for motorcyle helmets.

Mosquito spray with deet works very well to get the yellow out of plastic.

Wild.

I'll have to remember this in case my Zonda ever develops this issue. I keep it covered and inside the house, so hopefully it never does.

Shouldn't that headlight cleaner stuff work?

Yes it is the same principle. You are cleaning off an oxidation layer with a mild cutting compound. Toothpaste also works. It took the yellow right off mine.

If all else fails, you can get another clear side plate from plat, I bought an extra one for my zonda.
Thanks for the epiphany captain obvious

Thank you all for the ideas. I’ll give it a go with toothpaste and let you know how does it go. Any particular brand?
