I got mine in the mail today and it feels like it was made for the Destroyer 110 Special. I just hope the line pick up is fast enough.

How does the reel perform for 1/8oz lures? I am wondering if the reel would make sense on my 852NRX and 8-10 pound line.

!/8 is pretty dam light but I think on the right rod it would do well, What are you wanting to cast that only weighs 1/8oz ?

Mine is on a 6-5 UL Corzza. With 8# braid, I can cast a 1/16 crappie jig 45-50 ft. 1/8 will be no problem with the right rod.

I might want to throw a little shakey head every now and then (but most likely will rather use my BFS set up for that).

I am wondering if this would be a good reel to replace my MGXTreme2. The main reason here is that the Abu is horrible at skipping...

That would definitely be a worthy replacement. U should have no problem skipping with the Alphas. Heck, my OG Alphas Type F skipped pretty well with the stock spool. But with the SV spool thats in it now, its a skipping beast!

For what you are wanting the Alphas should do nicely. Im in the same boat, now that I have both reels mentioned. The Steez CT is crazy-nice and I have 2 of those already. So after buying the Alphas, I now cant decide if Im getting a 3rd Steez or another Alphas AND an Air Stream Custom for just a little more $. Decisions, decisions.....

Weight, mainly. The Steez is stupid-light and smooth, but that Alphas is no slouch. I do like the clicking drag in the Steez-it makes me wish every reel I own had this feature.

But performance wise, you would rate them equal in terms of casting?

I have both the 8.1 steez ct and 7.2 alphas ct. Comparing between the two the casting difference is so small its hard to tell really. I believe the steez has an ever so slight edge in short pitches but even there its close. Where the steez wins is in form factor, weight, the 8.1 ratio and the edge in smoothness plus clicking drag. I have 10lb red label on both, the alphas is on an edge black widow 704HM rod and the steez is on a 6'6" ML poison adrena. I use the alphas setup for mainly lighter t-rig's and small cranks while steez combo i also run small t-rigs as well as jerkbaits.
