I'm going to wait and see what comes next. Very curious about the rods / components.daiwafan wrote:I wish them well with the latest change to their business plan...but won't be at all interested in their rods and reels.

Re: ZPI Reel?
Probably due to search history . My next video was this interview talking about these ZPI reels, rods, and other things in Japanese. The new zpi glasses with no nose piece look interesting and seem like a pretty cutting edge idea. I’ve never sun glasses like that before.LgMouthGambler wrote:

You change or you die. There weren't many reasonably priced carbon handles, performance bearing or custom spools 15 years ago. There are a lot of each now. They may have seen the writing on the wall and this was one drastic way to do so.

Everything seems pretty cheap. Is there a functional reason for the sunglasses? The host was having trouble keeping them on his face.domthewon wrote:Probably due to search history . Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.
Re: ZPI Reel?
Yeah you’re right the glasses probably squeeze your temples too. Lol I just never seen anything like it and thought they were interesting. I definitely wouldn’t wear them, and won’t be buying their rod or reel either.Hobie-Wan Kenobi wrote:Everything seems pretty cheap. Is there a functional reason for the sunglasses? Whenever I see new little doo-dads attached to glassed, I'm reminded of the movie "The Jerk".domthewon wrote:Yeah you’re right the glasses probably squeeze your temples too. Re: ZPI Reel?
On a related note, ZPI could have been a very good decision. We are looking at it from an enthusiast point perspective. We are a sub-set of a sub-set. Think back 15 years. Who was around beside ZPI? King of the mountain. Sure, there were other spool, handle and lube company but ZPI were the premier brand.
There's been a lot of changes and new brands. See the writing on the wall. Adapt or change, baby!

Re: ZPI Reel?
For any of you who may be curious, I was sent a brand new in the box Alcance NS to be repaired. Out of the box the worm gear was not turning. Upon opening the reel, it was found that the idler gear was completely left out of the reel. Further more, IMO this is nothing special, other than the spool. It shares many features with many Banax built reels. The spool is certainly ZPI built, but sadly does not even include ZPI bearings. I mean for the love of all things holy, it even has Hot Sauce for lube.
