Just got to really try out my (old model) The-Pride with Fishman Lower 7.3L. And I am totally in love.
Now want to try baitcaster up to 1/2 oz. Have never been excited by it with smaller lures. Too much fuss.
But what if I just didn't have the proper rod-reel combo?
1) So I was thinking if it is worth investing in, say, Aldebaran 16 BFS XG, if I already have The-Pride?
2) How would they fare against each other in weights between 1/4 and 1/2 oz?
3) And how does it manage braided lines?
Planning to put it on Fishman 79UL (yet to be purchased).
Thanks!

If you can't resist buying tackle, stop resisting.

I can't help you with the 1/4oz to 1/2oz part but I do know that I do not like my 16 Alde BFS XG with braided lines. When I did use braid, I was using 10LB Suffix 832 for Baby Pop X's and I constantly got that jerk back kinda cast all the time so now I just use Sniper FC with no issues.

If you arent going below a 1/4oz then i wouldnt go for the bfs. The bfs was designed for 1/8oz and below. I use mine for around 1/16oz lures. 1/8oz can come close to spooling the reel if i have an aerodynamic lure. All the mgl spooled reels will do wonderful with the weight range youre after.

Re: Aldebaran 16 BFS XG vs ZPI The-Pride
I picked up a new Z-Pride a week or so ago and matched it to a Phenix K2 C683ML. I spooled my reel with Maxcuatro 20lb and was throwing an 1/8 shakey head yesterday and was really happy with it’s performance. I didn’t have anything lighter with me but had the same question about which would be better for throwing baits lighter than 1/8oz like a Duo Realis Spinbait 60 at 1/6oz or lighter.
Anyone have any experience throwing UL jerkbaits or crankbaits with a Z-Pride?
