Re: Alphas air stream custom
Anyone have experience with both the Alphas AIR and AIR stream?
I was super impressed with the Alphas AIR and wondering how the Air stream compares??

Re: Alphas air stream custom
The AIR Stream Custom can cast a little lighter and with more control at shorter distances. The AIR can edge out a little more distance. If you are after a stream or short range reel, the AIR Stream Custom is your reel. I like it better than the stock 16 Aldebaran BFS for short range stuff.biggs wrote:Anyone have experience with both the Alphas AIR and AIR stream?

I have both the Air and ASC. I was not super impressed with either reel on first try but both reels have grown on me - especially the ASC. I get better control, more accuracy, and better distance with the ASC, which also handles sub 3 gram lures better. Obviously, I get more line on the regular Air.
Edit: I have around 40 baitcasters now (most highend daiwa, shimano, abu). I have twice purchased an additional exact copy of the same reel - the ASC and Calcutta 201D. The former I purchased at full price because I like it so much, the latter because I like it and it was on sale...

Wow, those look nice together! On a side note, I have always thought that the PX-R star would look better on that reel, though I know that the Zaion star was used because it is lighter overall.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Can't wait to see how they fish together. That rod is still very much a bass rod, which is the idea. It's pretty stiff, but has an excellent taper and casts a 1/32 jig head+plastic very well and accurately on 6# fluoro.
This is the way.

The Zaion drag star looks nice but, gets in the way with the short handle. I plan on swappjng with one of my Steez or Alphas SV

I like it because you can flick it one handed to twitch baits.
I did the knob bearings swap and now there's no play, no shims required, too.

Wound up getting the UL MS-X pictures above. I think it's gonna RAWK! Thanks for the input.LowRange wrote: If you're after th 65UL then I think you would be better off trying to track one down from a member here. I have mine because another member casually mentioned that the rod was too stiff and not what there were expecting from an UL so I was able to inquire via PM about the rod which lead me to purchace my 2 pc 65UL. Unless I am mistaken 1nutinthewater has one and was disappointed with how stiff it is for an UL and ended up getting an UL Teton. I would shoot him a PM to inquire about the rod. It couldn't hurt. You could always post a WTB add in the classifies as well.

You guys are killing me... As if I needed anyother Alphas variant...
So what I am gathering is that this is performing better than the 16 Alderbaran?

1. I no longer have the stock spool for my Aldebaran BFS
2. Its winter and the light lures do not like to cast with ice in the guides.
I do like the Alphas AIR Stream Custom. It will be used for "bigger" stream trout. I learned that an XUL moderate rod cant handle 9in brookies very well. The Silver Creek has the guts to steer and horse those fish and bigger. It will also see some panfish duties as well. My panfish lineup is like a mini bass lineup of sorts.
It has a place in my lineup. Ill give it more time before I sell the handle to recoup some of the money spent.

Re: Alphas air stream custom
Cool. I love those Presso rods.
It works great! More than enough line and casts for distance and accuracy with the 3.5g spoon and 1/32 jig+plastic I was using. The spoon liked the brakes at ~55% while the jighead needed 90-100%. Still casted just fine though, once I dialed it in. I've got some 2.8g spoons on the way I think will work great. That is definitely still a bass rod, though. It landed the little crappie just fine, but it could handle a lunker.
