Scorpion bfs has the 'excited drag' sound from the Exsence dc.
That should be pretty fun on a bfs reel.

Not just nice - that exsence dc is a stunner!
Seems like only yesterday I purchased my exsence (but it was 2013/2014 i guess)...and now there is a new one coming.
Shimano really want my money and they are going to succeed.

I hope they didn't raise the price up too high. Doesn't appear to have the MGL spool.

Hmm, agree. The spool also seems a little bit deeper than on the older model. Or have I just been buying to many bfs reels lately.

I have to say that IMO the Shimano design team has been doing a fantastic job in recent years. I find their reels to be lightyears ahead of the competition appearence wise (esp. Daiwa and ABU - two brands I also love). They manage to combine old school classy looks with very clean modern (minimalistic ?) touches in reels such as Metanium, Met MGL, Aldebaran, 2017 Exsence, new Antares, Calcutta D, Conquest etc.
This is all personal preference of course.

The spool looks a little deeper, although the spool in the 16 Antares DC, which this shares a body with, has similar line capacity as the previous Exsence.
Wonder if it uses a different spool. Hopefully it holds 100yds of 14.

I'm most curious as to which DC system it'll have.

I think the ci4+chron was the best deal in the lineup. They really perform well.

The more I look at it and as much as I love my CQ 101HG, I am getting pretty excited about the CQ BFS. I may not be able to resist...Does anyone have any thoughts about what they might pair their's with..? It looks like it will be coming in @ just north of 7oz...

Any pics of the non handle sideplate? I wonder if they kept it the same- I also wonder if they changed it so that a bearing can be added to the worm gear like the metanium mgl???
