Just had a go with 3/8 oz plug (11.1 g to be more exact).
Similar result...

Tried putting it on 20/20 mag just for laughs at this point, got about 10 m.
Not sure how that setting would ever be useful.

Looked at the possibility of rotating the magnets a bit more, so that the mag dial can access a usable range.
Took the retainer ring off, and tried to re-seat the outer magnet, but won't work as there are hard stops for the rack that prevent it from rotating further.

Stiffer springs or drilling out the inductor are on the cards.

Being a 1016 is a give away to that. But yes 1016 and 1012 spools fit.

Point taken, and I was aware of the line capacity. But even my old Curado 200E7, which takes a heap of 30lb braid, will sling a 1/4 oz lure a long way and can also handle much heavier baits with ease. Not sure what the point of this reel is, as there are already plenty of candidates out there for throwing big heavy lures in both salt and freshwater. Would have been great to have a saltwater friendly STEEZ that can throw 1/4-1oz baits. Not all saltwater lures are heavy - I throw a lot of 78 Pointers at barramundi and other large tropical fish.
The Daiwa rep I talked to about it said it was primarily inshore with some crossover to bass guys. Agreed that Curado E7s did well with 1/4oz. The zillions/fuego's of that era did not tho. At least they never did for me...that is why the Sol/Alphas existed.

Cal's breakdown even notes that it looks to be a general purpose reel. I think 3/8 is the absolute lowest it can go with decent performance as a stock reel. I would not expect much more than that.

I haven't tried casting 1/4 oz on the Steez A, but I have one paired with a Megabass F7-76X Valdiva. I have 20# Sunline Super FC Sniper spooled up and even with that heavy line and heavy powered rod, I was getting very good distance with a 3/8 oz jig + trailer. It didn't feel like there would be a huge drop off to 1/4 oz with lighter line and a lighter rod, but that's definitely something worth checking out. I didn't buy it for 1/4 oz presentations, but this is interesting nonetheless!

I had the chance to use my Steez A a few days ago, and I had no issues casting a 1/4oz Thomas Buoyant spoon. It definitely felt too light for the reel, but I still managed to get some good distance with it. I had the reel paired with the One Ten Special btw.

Do you remember what mag setting you had on?

It has to be the magnets or the inductor, maybe both. I have the RCS 1016 spool in my Steez EX and it will blast a 3/16 jig and plastic trailer as far as I need it to.
Try not to let your mind wander. It is much too small to be outside unsupervised.

Y2k88 said he got about 100 ft on the cast...How far is everyone else getting?

It has to be the magnets or the inductor are different, maybe both. I have the RCS 1016 spool in my Steez EX and it will blast a 3/16 jig with a Zoom chunk trailer as far as I need it to.

Spools fit, but it is no guarantee it will work worth a damn. It's all about that inductor size, and how well it plays with the magnetic polarity of that specific reel.

For those who have the Steez A, how does the stock spool compare to other Magforce Z spools in spring stiffness, inductor length and thickness?

Only have the Tatula CT to compare.

Steez A spring is stiffer than Tatula CT
Inductor is slightly thicker (1.0 vs 0.9 mm)
Inductor is the same length

If the magnets are the same strength and inductor the same material, the Steez A should be flying if not uncontrollable.

That inductor looks much thicker than than what is on the Tatula :-k I would think this spool is built with a stronger braking profile. A T3 1016 spool would be a good replacement option but if there are differences in magnents then a magnet swap from a Steez TWS may be needed. Bit of a project to get your desired results IMO.

The inductor on the CT looks thinner because of the chamfered edge.
Might just sell it, get an aliexpress spool, or order a thinner inductor from another reel.

A reel that can't cast a 1/4 plug in no wind conditions (let alone 1/4 oz spinnerbait or lure) has no use for me.
