Need an in-between BFS reel
I need a reel to fill the niche between these 2 setups
16 Aldebaran BFS XG
8lb Gliss
Phenix Mirage UL 6'1" 1/32 - 1/8
T3B with Shallow SV spool
MHX 6' UL Spin Jig (rated down to 1/32, more like 1/8)
I will be building on the 16 Legend Elite 7' Light blank.
Will be casting everything from weightless worms to cranks, dropshots, jigs...whatever. I may be doing some skipping but that may be left for the T3B setup. I prefer mag brakes but I'm not opposed to the Shimano BFS reels.
I really liked the SS AIR I had. I like the casting and speed. I kinda regret selling it.
I have a T3 I can pop a spool in as well.
What are some ideas you guys have?

Re: Need an in-between BFS reel
I was thinking that but how much better at casting light stuff than a RCS 1000 Shallow SV spool?
I had the Steez SV LTD with HH AIR BFS bearings and it was decent at throwing light stuff. Only had 12lb Sniper on it and never tested out its true low end capabilities.

Re: Need an in-between BFS reel
It's got to be a Pixy variant to be in between a true BFS spool and a SV spool.
Re: Need an in-between BFS reel
I'd go the alphas sv. I've tested it down to 3 grams and it'll get just as much distance as a pixy with better control. Or alphas air if you want to go down to 2 grams or less.

Tuned Pixy with the Airy Red spool. That setup will flat get down with light baits.

Re: Need an in-between BFS reel
Logic is telling the the Alphas SV with the bearing treatment. The Tackle Tour part of me is thinking either an Alphas Air or something like that.
I'd be casting 4in worms, maybe a little lighter for the low end.

Go with your logic on this lol...save the money for tuning upgrades. It's really a pretty sweet little reel. If you're going to spend more to get an enthusiast offering get a Steez and drop in an SV 105 or just spring for the Limited SV...the only reel that actually keeps me up at night for sellingccass wrote:Logic is telling the the Alphas SV with the bearing treatment. Re: Need an in-between BFS reel
Anyone check out the SS Project on Plat? Would be sweet to get a pink SS AIR. I'd put the black nose plate in place of the silver one. It's says it's cheaper to get an SS project reel for some reason. Doesn't make sense.
