Which Luxxe Oltre is right for me?

Post by BassFisher83 » Sat Jan 09, 2016 10:42 pm

So while I am still a few months away from actually being able to afford one of these rods, I want in the rare care if one becomes available on the forums or similar (doubtful) that I cant pass up - I want to be prepared. Or hey I could be a billionaire come Wednesday!

I am deciding between the 69MH and the 70H. Uses - 1/8-1/4oz bullet weight plus plastic T-rig with the occasional 3/8oz. As well as 1/4-3/8oz arky, football, finesse, casting jigs. Probably throw a 5" senko if my Simoom (in the rare case) is rigged with something else. I mainly fish around the MD, VA area - Potomac, Upper Bay, Chickahominy most are water shallow fishing. I fish a lot of grass and cover along banks such as wood and docks. Line will most likely be 15lb Tatsu.

I have a MB Perfect Pitch is use for anything over 1/2oz. I am leaning towards the 69MH, but just looking for opinions to ensure I make the right choice. Thanks TT.

I would go for the 69MH as well. Looking to pick up a 70H this year to pair with Antares DC.

Thanks, IAY. I too was planning on the Antares DC if I went with the 70H, but with the 69MH I think I'd go with the Met DC.

Hey Matt, I've only spent one two hour session on the water with the B70h I pretty much got smoked. The weather wasn't as forecast (mid 60's. partly cloudy, negligible wind) instead the temps dropped off a cliff and the winds were probably 10-15 mph. To make matters worse I geared up for a gin clear lake, only to realize the park was closed for a deer hunt so I ended up at a very stained/algae infested lake instead. I'm thinking I was using 12lb sunline reaction FC just walking the shore for a few hours. I wasn't target casting, nor did I have a chance to vertical jig anything I ultimately ended up throwing an 1/8 oz tungsten worm weight and a yum thumpin dinger. It worked (with some effort) so I guess in a pinch you could use the B70H but I'd imagine the B69MH would be the better choice.

Personally I'm thinking of skipping the B69MH and going with the B70H and the B67M, if only because I already have the B70H. Since you've got the Ultima 166M I guess you're already covered there, but I envision personally shooting out the super eiger, 166m, and B67M (two thirds of the way there!).

Yes the 69MH is the rod you want. I already have many hours on the water with the 70H and while you can use it down to 1/4 ounce, 3/8 ounce and up to 1/2 is this rods absolute sweet spot.

Andrew/Bryan,

Thanks so much for your input and echoing my thoughts. With such an awesome and pricey as well, want to make sure I choose the best option.

I know that this is an old thread... But having spent time on the water with the B70H, I can attest that this is an amazing rod both functionally and aesthetically.

My experience is that it's absolute killer at 1/2 oz but is a bit too powerful for 1/4 and 3/8 for my taste (I prefer the NRX 843 for a 7' bottom contact rod for 3/8 oz). It can throw the 3/8 just fine but I like a little more weight on the tip as I hop or drag my jigs. I can see the B70H going all the way up to a 3/4 oz jig though. That titanium tip is something else.

I have used my 70H all the way down to weightless wacky worms with the right reel. No Problem. Not ideal as stated previously but ok with a 3/16 worm weight up to 1/2 with 5/16 and 3/8 being the sweet spot. The real seat is perfection for me and with a MET or Antares or IP79 is SWEET.
