TS78X Lock Nut Failure
So this happened…
We all know that many "JDM" items are no longer actually made in Japan. But this really sucks…while it is an easy repair, it reveals a lack of craftsmanship. The cutouts are very sloppy and appear to be done by hand. They are not even at all. A $700+ rod with the name Megabass on it should not do this!
To my knowledge, the blank for this rod was made in Japan by Megabass. The components (guides, handle) are supplied by Fuji, the handle being propietary to Megabass alone. Assembly is done in China with final inspection in Japan.

Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
From my understanding. The blanks are rolled in factories in China/Thailand and assembled in Japan. No company is perfect; Megabass has certainly impressed me with their goods over and over again, but these things are bound to happen. I am sure MB of America will take good care of you, since they have great people working there.

Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
My BJ PV did the same. Bad batch or bad mix of glue.

They must have had a bad run or something. Same thing happened to my XX. Kind of sucks, but still love Megabass.

Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
I agree, it shouldn't happen in general, on a $50 rod or a $1000 rod. I've seen the exact same adhesive issue on a few rods, Megabass included. Call it a bad batch, not enough adhesive, etc. Fortunately, it's a very cheap, very quick, very easy fix and it will be better than new when completed. I had a Super Eiger X7 do the exact same thing and used some Devcon 2 ton epoxy, allowed it to properly cure, and have fished the heck out of it for two years since with no issue.

That sucks! I feel your pain, Adam. At least it's a relatively easy fix.

Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
Maybe G Loomis sent Megabass the leftover NRX handle glue.

Seen on a few different mb rods. Easy fix but shouldn't happen, they should use epoxy instead of the tape.

Mine was epoxy that failed.cndbasshunter wrote:Seen on a few different mb rods. Easy fix but shouldn't happen, they should use epoxy instead of the tape.
Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
I had this happen on my X7 Simoom. It's a really easy fix, but still a PITA
Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
I've also had this happen on an x4 Destruction.

Usually the tape is used as a spacer and is only there to fill any clearance between parts and epoxy is used to actually bond the parts together. Some of the older jdm rods even used twine wrapped around the blank to make up the difference between the blank OD and the real seat ID.

I love it...so true
Re: TS78X Lock Nut Failure
This was an issue I had with every dobyns gen2 DX rod I used to own. Simple fix with some thin epoxy but kind of annoying.
