First Test Alphas SV

Post by Josh-G » Thu May 14, 2015 4:20 am

Hello,

today I tested my new Alphas SV SHL for the first time. I wanted to find out if there really is no need to thumb or if it´s just rumor since I´ve never casted a SV-spool before.
So I spooled it up with 150m of 15lbs braid and mounted it on my troutstick.
Without knowing how to exactly set the brakes I tied on a little jig and started to cast/experiment in my backyard.
First impression: Smoooooth, but without thumb I backlashed
Ok, I played a little with the brakes and it works. No thumb, no backlash :D
Since my backyard is not very big I wasn´t able to reach maximum casting distance. But to be honest, I don´t think it lacks in distance.
I was curious how low I can go with the casting weight and tied on a Cranking Pupa with 2,6gr.
With a little brake adjustment I was able to cast it about 50 feet without using my thumb and no backlash.
This reel is fantastic! It´s still stock besides Air bearings for the spool but will get bearings under the knobs and levelwind. The brake seems to be fine so I won´t put smoothdrags in.

Thumbs up :-c \:D/

Josh
