This is a new feature exclusive to the Aldebaran model reels. As with any casting reel, the spool rides on bearings. These bearings have pockets in the frame or side plates which house the bearings. In order to make the bearings easily replaceable, some tolerance is built in. This small tolerance allows the bearing to move slightly while casting. This movement leads to a small amount of vibration which can rob you of casting distance and smoothness during the cast.

Shimano has found a way to improve upon this. By adding small springs under the bearings it helps reduce vibration during the cast. The springs ensure proper alignment of the bearings and eliminate any movement that may occur. The result is a much smoother and quieter cast.
Do you like it now? This will make the reel smoother and quieter no?

Here is a YouTube clip. Quick but give you another look at the Aldebaran/E6X

No, I knew about the silent tune feature before I posted. Adding ceramic bearings takes away the "quiet" some so rather have easier access to clean change the bearings. Doesnt keep me from wanting one though.

That bearing shouldnt com into play during casting, don't know why they even put one there.
Anyone get their Met DCs yet? :D

I don't know how to post pics, but I did spool it up to cast a few times,it does have the famous dc whine to it and it comes with a nice neoprene reel pouch.I spooled the reel with 16lb supernatural ,tied on a 3/8 casting plug, first I set the inside control to nylon setting, then started casting through the settings.I found that setting 2,3,4, and automatic seam all the same not much distance , but when I set it to 1 thats when I seen a big improvement in distance with control. I then tied on a 1/2oz casting plug and thats when I seen more difference in the setting,I could see bombing a frog out there with this reel.I have to get more time in,and on the water with it still.
