This new Alphas will go nicely with those two limited Steez SV reels you're getting.dragon1 wrote:Hope the knobs are removable so that four bearings can be added. I may have missed this info - aluminum or brass gears?

Hahaha...while those Steez are super sweet - I don't know if I would spend anything in the $400 range anytime soon. With my boys getting older and getting more "expensive", I have been back on the older/value fishing gear for the last few years.Aaronb wrote:This new Alphas will go nicely with those two limited Steez SV reels you're getting.dragon1 wrote:Hope the knobs are removable so that four bearings can be added. Hence, selling off my Stellas, my Ringas, my TD-Z Ito 103M, my TD-Z Type R+ & Type R, my Antares AR and Calais 100A...I have a few nice toys left, but fish mostly everyday workman type reels anymore.

At 6 oz., I would think that the gears have to be aluminum. Alphas Ito had aluminum gears and it weighed 6.1 oz. But maybe brass gears and the Zaion gear-side plate cut down on the weight a bit? Whatever it turns out to be, I will know for certain in March.dragon1 wrote:Hope the knobs are removable so that four bearings can be added. I may have missed this info - aluminum or brass gears?

Re: New Alphas SV for 2015
My Alphas Ito with aluminum gears has such a strange sensation when reeling. It is like I can feel the teeth meshing together. It is very smooth and yet so connected feeling. It is one of my favorite reels to use. I could see some thinking that it is not as smooth, but again I love the feeling it gives off.
Is that a characteristic of aluminum gears?

Wonder if we will be able to pick these up for around 2 bills. Ss SV msrp was like 360 ish. Can get these for like 290. Curious to see what prices these will be at on Jp angler and Japan lure shop.

Yeppers...Daiwa, Shimano and Abu in my experience. Some also feel that MG may help to resonate this feeling more so than an aluminum or metal frame.RMCatchNrelease wrote:My Alphas Ito with aluminum gears has such a strange sensation when reeling. Id be willing to guess that youd be correct. Makes me question the $100 difference in SS vs the Alphas. Seems there is something we do not know to account for preice differenceHogsticker2 wrote:Wonder if we will be able to pick these up for around 2 bills. Ss SV msrp was like 360 ish.
