PVC pipe is the only way to go. You can get it from Home Depot or Lowes. I know Lowes can cut it for you, and you can cut it yourself at home depot at one of that self-serve station. Oh don't forget the end caps for both ends too.

Yup, cardboard-tubes suck....
And also donĀ“t forget to buy a spool of duct tape and a cord (to tie the grip section to the tube).

Make it 4" longer overall then the rod. I wrap bubble wrap around each guide on the rod and tape it to itself to the tape holds it in place, but isnt on the rod. I also tape the reel seat to protect it from damage. Then I suspend the rod in the tube. Tape some twine to the tip and butt of the rod (on some bubble wrap) and pull it through the center of the end caps. This suspends the rod in the middle of the tube and keeps it from smashing around on the sides or the ends. Dobyns ships their rods from the factory like this and I thought it was an epic idea.

Plano sells the adjustable length type rod tube if I'm not wrong.

However, I would buy from Home Depot (& fashion it however I want) now that I'm here in the states. Just too convenient and way cheaper. The PVC tube will also be harder and stronger than those adjustable length type rod case.

I second wrapping your rods with bubble wrap before putting them into the case.

My rod case comes with foam pads for top & bottom too which I thought was awesome. When I ran out of bubble wrap, I crushed some old magazine pages and newspaper to fill up the gaps (loosely), to minimize any impacts.

My 3 rods arrived in NY from Singapore in perfect condition.

For some countries, checking in the tube (sports luggage) can be a pain in the *** and they will want you to open up the thing for checks before sending someone down to pick it up and then manually load them onto the plane...

I guess if you're shipping them, it'll be easier.
