personally, besides the usual aesthetic stuff, I love the shorter split handles and 6ft6 length rods... JDM seems to have way more choices.
also, blanks seem to be thinner & lighter (esp so for the pricier goods) for the same price range.
so... just wondering, what's the thing you like about JDM rods?

The pure mystique.
The allure of an unknown quantity....priceless.

The thrill of buying on faith alone and being thrilled with it in hand. Also, the commitment of no warranty at all makes most JDM rods a unique relationship.

Pretty much agree with everything you've said.
Blank construction first (thinner, stronger and lighter).
Fit, finish and detailing second.
Balance and the variety of lengths and powers third.
Last would be the variety of appearance choices by manufacturers, cork, eva, or mix.
Something to suit everyone's tastes IMO.

The way they actually care about making something as "pedestrian" as a fishing rod into something beautiful...with their own interpretation of beauty.
How hard it can be to obtain that beauty. Work is required to appreciate something obtained.
And then they perform!

I like the full eva handle options and that even the low range $150 rods still have SiC or K-Series Alconite guides.

oh wait till you try the Ti-SiC K guide combo on the higher end Jdm stuff.tywithay wrote:I like the full eva handle options and that even the low range $150 rods still have SiC or K-Series Alconite guides.
I sometimes rinse my poison glorious in the brackish water and just leave it as that. this plus the tropical heat & humidity can't destroy my guides.
