Do you normally fish Texas rigs with a medium powered rod?

no. usually a medium heavy 7'0. but ive never owned a MB rod so im not sure if they rate on the heavier side.

ie: Abu Garcia Veritas 7'0 med action fishes like a medium heavy. and medium heavy like a heavy, see what im saying or asking?

Megabass and most JDM rods fish the other way - lighter than their ratings.

You're going to want an F5 - F6 rod... Something like the Bearing Down or Orochi X4 Destruction

I agree with Cal and recommend the phase III Bearingdown, extremely sensitive bottom contact rod. I own a few NRX rods and it’s has a little more backbone than my 853C JWR, 893C JWR but less than my 873C CRR.

I've tossed a lot of texas rigged plastics and light jigs on the Black Elseil and it handles them just fine. It fishes heavier than a "medium" powered rod and is rated an F4.5 which in Megabass speak is "Megabass Medium Heavy." 1/8 to 1/4 oz bullet weights and a worm or plastic, up to about a 3/8 oz jig, around what I'd consider lighter cover and the Black Elseil does a great job. I tend to use mine more for moving baits, but it's absolutely versatile enough for some texas rigging and lighter jig fishing...

F4 1/2 70X4 is the rod that I used to crank DeepX-300 power knocker.....

It works great :)

Currently I am running 8lb flouro on my Black Elseil, and use it for light carolina rigs of 1/4-3/8 oz w/ nose hooked plastic, cranks up to DT10, vision 110s, pointer100s, and the occasional shakey head. I rarely use t-rigs, but if you don't go heavier than 1/2oz, use braid, and don't go too heavy on hook size you won't have any problems in lighter cover. That said, it's not my first choice of an all around plastics/ jig rod, I would choose something that is a true MH and a little longer than 7'. Unfortunately having not fished any of the newer Megabass rods I can't make any recommendation that has not already been made.

F-4.5 is discripted as a Megabass MH, where F-5 is discripted as MH. When I bought mine I was thinking Medium, but its not your average Medium. I use mine for moving baits and am very happy with it.

The Black Elseil is one of my favorite rods. I think it feels similar to a traditional USDM MH Fast rod in hand, but fishes completely different. I find that I can use this rod for shallow/medium cranks, lipless cranks, spinnerbaits, buzzbaits, spooks, t-rigs, c-rigs, and jigs. This is a very versatile rod. Get one, you won't be disappointed. I own the Technical Game Rattle Viper, the Super Orochi, and the Destruction. All great rods and the come alive when a fish is on the other end.

Finnz,

How would you compare your Rattle Viper and the Black Elseil? I have the Rattle Viper and use it for 1/8-3/8 baits: shakey heads, worms, medium cranks. It really does everything for me.

I would assume the Black Elseil would handle a slightly heavier bait??

How have you rigged yours?
